If you have already replaced your battery and have a new one they are going to change it anyway and keep your battery. No matter what you replaced it with. Can’t get reimbursed without all kinds of documents of replacement. So if you have any expensive battery take it out before you go. Put in old one or something. Will not give you the new battery you put in no matter what

If I had already replaced my battery with an expensive one, I would take the vehicle in and tell them to just clear the recall as it really wouldn't apply anymore (JMO). Cheers!

SERVICE ADVISER Said when they do the calibration they check the battery also if not the Ford battery gets changed. Told me has had many complains and Ford has not changed there policy. Even if you had battery replaced it had to be for the specific problem and if you changed it yourself forget it.

The letter we received has a section titled: "Have you previously paid for this repair?"

It says the recall must still be performed, and details the procedure for getting reimbursed.

One potential catch -- only battery replacement related to internal weld and/or cast-on-strap failures are eligible for a refund. The cause of the OE battery failure may be impossible to prove, at least in many cases.

Ford phone: 866-436-7332

My understanding is that they will replace the existing battery regardless (OE or not) but the owner getting reimbursed for replacing the OE battery, while possible, may be difficult.

Those who are going to try, might want to research the signs/symptoms of internal weld and/or cast-on-strap failures so that if asked, their claim will be harder to deny. Otherwise, the dealer and/or Ford is likely to say that the OE battery just died a 'natural death.'

My OEM EFB battery died just before the recall was announced, and was replaced by dealer with Ford AGM at my expense. I received the recall notice and contacted the dealer who told me I’d have to wait for the actual recall to start to file for reimbursement.
I submitted for reimbursement 5/4/25 with the dealer. They gave me a check on 5/19/25 for the total cost, and cleared the recall. The computer reprogramming had already been done, so they didn’t even inspect before taking care of it.

So I just checked and yes, they took out the old battery, which I bought from AAA 14 months ago and replaced it with a Ford battery.

They said they would reimburse me for the AAA battery if I had a receipt with my VIN number on it, but AAA doesn't give out that kind of a receipt so I'm SOL with respect to reimbursement.

What I don't like is the fact that the Ford tech didn't mention the fact that he replaced my battery.

Just make a receipt and turn it in. Plenty of free sites to do that online.

"...a receipt with my VIN number on it..."?! A cynical person might think that they demand a receipt with the VIN because they know receipts almost never include the VIN.

It's obvious that your OE battery has been replaced. It should be enough that you have a receipt for that specific battery -- unless of course the dealer is attempting to weasel out of paying for the AAA battery.

You should escalate this to Ford. The recall is pretty specific about reimbursement, and it's easy to prove the battery taken out of your car was not the one installed at the factory.

As Mark says — talk to Ford.
My dealer (not the boss) said to contact Ford for refund. Ford said there’s two ways to get refund:
1. Easy way is to get refund from dealer, which I did after talking to the boss. My dealer had replaced the original battery so had all the information.
2. Go through Ford who will have to verify and evaluate the claim before processing the refund.
