Google (or whatever the parent company is called today) stole Android.
In what way? The original team that created Android continued developing it after they sold the OS to Google in 2005. One of them, Andy Rubin, remained with Google until 2013. Why would any of them have anything to do with Google if Google stole from them?

I guess steal is perhaps the wrong word. I thought Oracle had a good case against Google, but grudgingly admit I can see why SCOTUS ruled in favor of Google (due to implications wirh other OSs like Linux. I still find myself siding with the minority dissents). Speaking of Linux, I also think Android/Google played fast and loose early on with the spirit of Open Source. That Google has made bundles of money making Android a closed system for all intents and purposes bugs me.

I do admit that my view is a biased one and that it really colors my perspective. Despite how cool and useful Big Tech gear has become, I'm very anti-Big Tech b/c of the strings that come attached to their products. So while I use Google products I try not to as best as I can. Same with Microsoft, Apple, and Amazon. But to me, the worst offenders are Google and Meta.

Yes, I've become more Luddite over the years. Not because I don't appreciate the tech; rather, I'm cognizant of the abuses that can occur (and do) with all this Big Tech. And that stance colors my view of Ford integrating Google into the vehicle at what is essentially root level. I just want a capable vehicle. Not a vehicle that comes with strings attached.

Off now to tilt at other windmills. Where's my sidekick, Sacho Panza?

I recently replaced the head unit in my Porsche with a Chinese made high-end Android head unit and could not be happier. I replaced mine because original head unit did not have CarPlay, navigation, or a backup camera. The new head unit supports both wireless Android Auto and CarPlay and has a larger more sensitive screen and had an adapter to maintain digital sound. The sound almost matches the original Bose surround sound. One key benefit is the ability to update software, navigation apps, and maps free. You can also add android apps to the head unit. For example, I installed the Dragy GPS performance monitor and can check 0-60 and quarter mile times and lap times.,
