Hi friends! Once again I come to y'all and hope it's not a repeat. I have a 2024 Bronco Sport Big Bend and here's what's going on. I'm driving, pull into the garage, have the key in my purse, release the rear door using the inside button. While I'm hauling my rear out, and walking up to the house, my husband goes to the back to unload groceries. The rear door is locked...so I have to unlock it again with the key fob. What am I doing wrong? P.S. There will be another problem coming up in the next post after I search first...

You might need to reset the rear hatch lock. I don’t recall the process, but there is a thread that explains the sequence to re-sync the fob and latch mechanism.

This is the procedure (two methods) Bill G stated to re-sync the fob and latch mechanism. Good to memorize this but when you release the rear door using the inside button (on the dash), that does unlock the rear hatch which you can hear it unlatch. My guess is the hatch is getting locked again as I mentioned earlier or by some other mechanism.

Trunk keyless entry: Key fob pairing
On key fob: Double press the x2 trunk open button. Close the trunk. Lock the doors with fob.

Alternative method to activate unlocking of the trunk (hatch) while doors are all locked and key fob is close by: double press the x2 trunk open button on key fob. Open trunk, lock all doors not touching key fob. Close trunk, and then you can unlock trunk as long as key fob is in range. To deactivate… push key fob trunk lock once and trunk (hatch) will not open.

I've noticed that the button on the dash does not always fully unlatch the lift gate on my car as well. I think it's a double latch mechanism similar to the car doors. The button sometimes only releases to the first latch. I haven't considered it enough of a hassle to investigate, but I suspect it has something to do with the rubber bumpers (or equivalent) the corners of the liftgate rest against when it's closed. These should provide enough pressure on the liftgate to push it past the second latch when you press the button on the dash, but it doesn't. The same thing happens when you press the hatch button on the fob, but you may not notice it because you are pressing the exterior unlatch button when you pull on the liftgate to open it.

Do you just throw your fob into a purse or bag? I found I need to put my fob in a place where it won't get banged around by other stuff in the bottom of my purse. Otherwise I get the intermittent back hatch won't open.

Perhaps when you close the drivers side door you touch your hand on the lock door sensor locking all the doors?

Mine doesn't have a lock sensor on the outer door handle...just the keyhole. When I have my key fob in my purse, It unlocks the door automatically, but I have to take the key fob out to lock the car manually. That seems weird, in itself...because apparently, it's auto locking the back!

Okay, okay...now I AM an idiot. I went out to my car and it DOES have lock sensors! They cover the whole length of all the handles and are the same color (black), so I didn't notice them. I heard them before I even touched the handle...I've heard them before, but didn't realize they were visible to the touch. Sorry, it's been a week. Don't give up on me...

Some owners have said the Bronco sport auto unlocks when they walk up to the vehicle but as far as I know Bronco Sports do not have that feature (most likely they are touching the door handle and don’t realize it)

I have a special pocket in my purse for the key fob...it seems THAT is the only thing I've done right! ?

Well, mine does without touching the door handle. If I have the key fob in my purse, (within 3 feet) it will unlock without touching it...that is why its locking and unlocking without touching anything. This Pony is so much smarter than me, it's embarrassing. Thanks to Dude, Bill G, MarkS and ponyrider! Y'all are so sweet to make me NOT feel so stupid!

Well, mine does without touching the door handle.
Question: Do you hear it unlocking before you reach for the handle? The unlock sensor for the front doors is on the back side of the handle. It's nigh impossible to put your hand through the handle without touching the backside of the handle, activating the sensor and unlocking the door.
