Update: I’ll be taking my Bronco back to the dealer on Monday.. this week was pretty warm in Colorado and we started smelling coolant after every drive for the last 3-4 days. In addition to that, the popping/clunking is getting more prevalent in reverse now. We’ll see what they say after diagnosis. I requested to speak with the shop foreman to see what he may think as well. Getting a little bit of buyers remorse this time.. though we’re grateful for the warranty.

What year is your vehicle? See if the popping/clunking in reverse might be due to the following new recall (however it states a limited number of vehicles produced at specific timeframes)

8F35 transmission … potential reverse gear failure caused by a snap ring not fully seated during assembly

Ours is a ‘23, so it doesn’t look like it made the cut.

I suggest printing the info anyway and have your service advisor confirm it’s not applicable to your VIN
Ford has been known to extend recall applicability to more VINs

Update… Going on 4 weeks at the dealer now. Ford service is an absolute joke these days… Anyway, the parts have been acquired for the water pump replacement, just waiting for it to get in for the replacement. I did ask to make sure they ordered the updated water pump and they did. I also asked if they will perform a full coolant system flush and they said they only do a drain and fill with this procedure. Does this sound right?

Other than that, the transmission technician took the car for another 30 minute drive and couldn’t replicate any of the noises we’re hearing.. I asked them to drop all the trays and inspect the driveshafts, axles, diff, and transmission to make sure there’s nothing out of the ordinary.. still waiting for that as well.

When we initially purchased the Bronco, it had the windshield replaced from something that happened under prior ownership and we found out really quick that it wasn’t sealed correctly when we went through a car wash. Ended up having the entire front collision assist system replaced due to faults after that. We’re grateful it was replaced and fixed under warranty, but even after that service there were still things left incomplete that we had to bring it back for… due to this and everything else we’ve experienced, Ford’s service has really made us lose confidence in this car, to no fault of it’s own. I received orders and we’re moving this summer. We won’t be driving the Bronco long distance and have decided to ship it instead. Maybe we’ll have a better experience at our next location, but for now it’s going to be hard for us to justify keeping this thing long-term. Which is a shame.. we really like this car.

They told you the old and incorrect procedure. If you print a copy of the current TSB (posted on this Forum), you can discuss with the service department

I found the link and sent it to my advisor. I’ll probably call the service center in the morning to confirm this is what they’re doing.

That’s an great idea!! And if you are able to, spend the day watching the tech do the work

Should take many hours for the tech to do the job correctly

If it’s really the case that engine casting sand is the actual root cause (which I’m skeptical), getting out all casting sand isn’t easy

The tech likely will share with you what is believed by the tech to be the root cause - assuming the tech has performed the procedure enough times on vehicles to form an opinion

Copy all. I doubt they’ll let me do that lol. I’m sure I’m already coming off as overbearing and annoying.

But with a pair of binoculars and sitting far enough outside the open bay door …

Actually I recall an owner that installed a camera under the engine hood wired up presumably to its own battery …

Finally got the car back.

- Waterpump replaced and coolant system serviced via the 25-2063 TSB
- Back right tire had a nail and slow leak. Was patched.
- both rear struts were found to be leaking and were both replaced.

Wild.

Hi, did these replacements fixed the noise?

I'm having a pretty similar case, First Edition 2021 with almost 25,000 miles.

The pop sound in question happens mainly when accelerating from a standing still, more that a pop is like a cracking sound, it almost feels like is happening under your feet, very metallic sound like. It happens when going straight or turning the wheel.

I had that similar sound in the past after taking the BS to a trail and got dealigned, after alignment, the cracking sound stopped. Tried the same a few weeks, no success and now is happening all the time when accelerating.

The second sound is when stopping, when braking you can hear a some weird noise, not break related, more like if it was something in the bearings or like if there was something stuck in the tire that is making the noise when the wheel is turning. Also, not a nail or stone in the tires.

So, these are my 2 noises. Any ideas?

My guess man. It’s your outer CV Axel Joint. If your feeling clicking and popping noises from stand still accelerating that’s a give away.

Here is the WSM ford techs use to diagnose the front suspension.
Awesome, thank you for the advise and the guide!
