Happy Labor Day weekend all! So, I was cruising down the coast in my Bronco Sport when I suddenly started getting flashing red warning lights on my dash saying 'Charging system service soon'.

The warning would disappear after a few minutes and then reappear after another twenty to thirty minutes later. Happened about six or seven times. Luckily I was near a ford dealership on my roadtrip and stopped by.

Unfortunately they couldn't find anything wrong with my Bronco Sport. She is a 21 Big Bend model and had the recall upgrade added as well as a brand new AGM battery added a couple of months ago. I was told I was 'probably safe to continue my trip'. Time will tell if I get stranded come Labor Day or not, because it's a 200 plus mile journey home if so.

Not sure what my options are if my ford dealer can't figure out what's wrong with her. Could sell and upgrade to a newer year?

Thoughts?

Dang that’s wild they are just like “ya you’re probably good to keep driving” please keep us updated. Everything I read while researching doesn’t apply seeing that you have a brand new agm battery. I did read one situation where the wiring harness to the alternator was chafed but that was on an f150 forum. Only other things I saw were to double check your battery +\- connections aren’t loose anywhere? Not much help I know

I had that similar situation in June. My car lost all power while sitting in a drive-thru line. 2 trucks to jump it later I have it towed to the dealer. They tell me that it's my battery and that it's not related to the recall from earlier that month regarding the inability for the car to read battery power. $600 later and 6 weeks, my car has more codes pop up for power train issues. Once again take. To dealer magically the one part needed to fix power train issue is not covered under warranty. So my question is. . . What exactly is covered under a power train warranty and a recall for battery charge detection errors if not these items?

Not quite the same situation, but I received a notification from my Ford App telling me that "remote locking and starting were unavailable". It sat for a day or two after a PCM recall, so I was going to check the at rest battery voltage with a meter and then fire the ole gal up and the charging system. I found a lose negative terminal at the battery. "Trust but verify" as I believe the saying goes

What powertrain issue did you have?
I just had the 4WD module replaced in my Badlands. I was getting various error messages with the main error being a 4WD fault. The dealer also performed the software update recall for the BCM and PCM.

I did the BCM and PCM recall. I had to have a valve deactivation selenoid replaced the week after they did the recall. All of which they said are not warranty issues. I would disagree. The codes on reader were P0299, P3402

I’m in the charging system game now.

had the error in April a few times on a long road trip. Took it in and the “battery has a bad cell”. Ok. Fine.

I get it again and they do the recall upgrade. Fine again for a while. Then get it again and it’s a “different code” (I haven’t pulled the logs yet) so….. new alternator (thankful for extended warranty).

now we are up to date as of last Thursday.

today? Errors again twice going to work. No other errors on dash (maybe in codes if I pull them). Weird thing is, dash only shows on a specific stretch of road, at a specific time of day, next to a large new factory build and recently operative.

not saying it has anything to do with it. But it is an interesting oddity. The errors initially first round happened well away from it. And the second time once well away from it. But now it’s only in the morning and only near it. Maybe I need my tinfoil hat.

What’s the location (address or the cross streets and city) of that new factory that went operational ?
You are not the first to report such weird behavior of the vehicle. Check out this post… (see post #12 etc at this link)

Heya Dude... LTNT. I've been off the radar for a bit... life right?

So... it's going down the 17 in Phoenix past.... TSMC... the new GIGANTIC Taiwanese Chip Factory. No joke. And only in the morning. And only on the way by there. Clears up south of that. At least from the screen.

I don't wanna wear a tin foil hat for this... I have to wear one enough the way the world is going hahaha.

No tin foil… based on several similar occurrences I suspect EMI which is pretty common especially impacting vehicles with a loose ground or unterminated connections

I did not know that plant has already gone operational… thought it was delayed to at least late 2025

I’ve heard both. I hear not operational, then you hear the random horror story. Can’t trust none of it anymore.

I thought EM too. But… it just seems odd thing to consider for an old fart like myself. I remember when they didn’t have all this computer stuff. Up hill. Both ways.

@Dude ok... latest update.

Fuse wire corroding and loose. Also... Water pump went out between last week's all point inspection and this weeks. So that's getting replaced too. I am actually in the same crap Toyota Corolla for 3-5 days again :-(.

Got it back. Didn’t make it out of the lot. Now, motor mounts are shot at 37k????? WTH. I love my service guy, but this is getting stupid. Now I’m starting to wonder if I will be able to trust my baby once I get it back!

I’ve been a ford guy since 1993. And my wife’s life was saved by driving a flex. I’ve NEVER experienced something like this. I don’t put blame on y service guy at the dealer at all. I’m just super frustrated now. 2x100$ deductibles.

He said not charging me that next time and gave me a loaner this time cause he had one.

But it isn’t having my car back….. and trustable.

UPDATE: Argenis is back home. So far I drove to the office and it is driving fine. Time will tell but at least she is back with me for now, and hopefully nothing else goes haywire. I sure missed having my comfort zone.

You know …. That dropping feeling when you switch to drive pulling out of a parking spot as some dumb teenager decides to rev his straight pipe a couple blocks away right as your gears switch. Hahaha. Sigh. I’m gonna be hearing every little sound for a week or two me thinks.
