Recall on 23, 24 BS winshield wiper motors

Just saw on Ford Authority about this recall. Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2023-2024 Ford Maverick, 2023 Ford Bronco Sport, and 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E models over an issue with the windshield wiper motor. I can't believe this! Another recall? I'll bet Ford leads all the other manufacturers in recalls. Now this one really irks me. I received the letter today for the safety recall 24S51 (NHTSA Recall 24V594). As I am reading this I am beginning to wonder what is really involved in checking the wiper motor for the missing seal. I'm assuming they will have to remove the wipers, remove the cowling, etc. But does it involve actually removing the gear cover from the wiper motor to see if the "seal" is there or not? Does it mean tearing apart a sealed wiper motor and is this why it takes them a half a day to check it? Then the letter says that if the motor fails this "intense" inspection that your dealer will order the parts and then you get to bring it in a second time to have it fixed properly. Of course, this all begs the question: Why are some of the wiper motors missing the "seal?" Who is the maker of this wiper motor and their supposed "quality control?" Maybe, that company that produces it should compensate the owners of a "failed" wiper motor with a loaner while the car is being repaired. Also, is there an easier way to find out if the seal is missing the seal without having to tear your cowling out and then ripping the motor out? The biggest problem here, how many windshield wiper motors have been reported as failing? Come on Ford, get your head out of your derriere and start informing us "recalled" customers more about this recall and what is really involved.

Often wondered if Ford or others are compensated by the parts makers that have made these recalls a PITA for us and Ford.

I would hope Ford, etc. have clauses that help cover the costs related to recalls.

Wireman, still wondering how they will check to see if your particular wiper motor is defective (i.e. missing the seal). I'm assuming each motor is alrealy "factory" sealed or sealed by the manufactuer...which means the tech at your dealership will have to break open the seal in order to inspect it, right? Or is each wiper motor stamped with a serial number (along with the part number) and Ford knows which serial numbers are defective. In any case, it seems that Ford will attempt to replace them all with one which has the proper seal. What a hassle...I mean how long have there been wiper motors on cars...at least a century or more ago...I wonder if they have 30K wiper motors available? Unlikely...

UPDATE: I just had the recall done (via my dealer’s mobile service). The tech came out to the house removed the wiper arms, cowling, and finally the wiper motor itself. The tech has to check the back of the wiper motor for two suspect Julian dates…if your wiper doesn’t have one of those dates (luckily I didn’t), then you’re in the clear. But, if you do, then your dealer has to order a new wiper motor, and install it at a later date. The most difficult part was getting the wiper arms back into their original position.
