Hi All,
Just joined! Its great to be here and look forward to interacting with all of you. I have an Oxford White '23 Outer Banks with the Black Diamond package. Purchased back in December of '23. It is lifted with a SST 1.5" Lift Package and I am running Falken Wildpeak AT Trail 245/65 R17s.

I live in Glendale, AZ which is about 15 miles from the planet Mercury so, I experience heat issues that would kill most N/A engines let alone a turbo. I do have the ability to adjust my fuel octane at race gas location not far from me in Scottsdale. However, most of the time I just run the Costco special 91 octane (Who knows what it really is!) "superior" grade gas. Running 87 Octane before the temps exceeded 90 worked great, at 91 degrees It was like driving a 1.0L without a turbo and gas mileage dropped to 20MPG from 25MPG.

The baby Bronc is my daily grocery getter and occasional local off road fishing buddy hauler. Most of my mod money is spent on my other Ford and parts are often hauled in the back of the Bronco.

My experience to date has been very positive, except for temps above 91, and I believe this is the best SUV/Off Roader / Crossover shaped like a brick. It is the best looking Brick on the market!

The "Coffee" Roast Interior sold me (pick from when I purchased) along with the Black Diamond Package with "Steelie" wheels.

Did your gas mileage change much above 91°? Phoenix average temp summer of ā€˜24 was 99°, daytime temps since May 27 have exceeded 100° about 107 days straight. Just curious if your mileage stayed around 20mpg or dropped further over the hot summer.

My ā€˜22 Badlands with the 2.0L, the gas mileage dropped significantly around March and hasn’t recovered - with daytime temps possibly dropping to the low 90’s starting next week I’m hoping the mpg recovers. In town driving has been around 17-18 mpg now.

Thanks for the note! The MPG didn't really change much once the temps were above 90+ I have been getting about 20MPG the entire summer. I wonder if the drop in MPG also related to the summer blend of gas since we in Maricopa county get California gas versus Texas gas down in Tucson.
It is supposed to drop into the 90s next week with lows in the 70s. I am wondering if my MPG will change with the drop. I am definitely going to be paying attention to when the winter gas hits as well.
Did you also notice a drop in overall performance in the low end? As the temps rose, off the line power was abysmal until 3K RPMs; however, once I started running 91 Octane helped. I have a '20 Mustang GT/CS with the 5.0L and I don't notice any power drop off until the temps are well above 110. The Mustang does have a 6 speed so, it isn't as noticeable. Although, I don't worry about MPG in the Mustang :-D

Interesting.... This is one of the reasons why I think it might be related to the California gas we get here in Maricopa County.

No drop in low end performance however I only use 91 octane in the 2.0L badlands.

My drop off in mpg began in March with the use of AC .. i think the cleaner-burning gasoline blend in phoenix is typically from June through September and may have been delayed a couple weeks due to a shortage of the Cali production.

I also noticed the radiator fan runs much louder this summer (also started in March) so am wondering if that relates to the drop in gas mileage or if the grill shutters are working properly.

I also noticed the same with the fans, they do work significantly harder since the temps rose. I will definitely take a look at the grill shutters as well. Being in the Phoenix metro, removing the grill shutters might actually help keep the engine bay cooler and improve performance in my 1.5L. Part of the joy associated with living in the desert!
