Hey Everyone,

I’ve had a hell of a past two months with my bronco sport. My Bronco Sport 1.5 is at 63k miles so just out of warranty…

The day before thanksgiving my Bronco sport went into limp mode and dropped a p0299 code. Pulled over and got the car home. They started working on it Dec2nd,It was determined to have a blown turbo, turbo turbine was found inside my catalytic converter. Car got a brand new turbo assembly, all new hoses clamps, etc. picked it up back up on Thursday, they had driven it four miles and the check engine light was off and it was all good to go $4100 later.

I picked the car up, drove it home 10 miles and parked it without an issue. Didn’t drive it again until yesterday when my daughter had an urgent care visit need. Started up, got about 10-15 miles down and the same P0299 code popped, car went limp and my oil pressure light lit up temporarily. Service engine then immediately popped up as well. Turned back around and parked it again.

Car now can’t get seen until Wednesday, we’re now down to one car for Christmas which sucks.

Anyone had any experience like this? Also should I be fronting out for additional repairs or should the dealership/service center since they had done an inspection and diagnosis on the vehicle? I’m kind of afraid the repair didn’t take care of the issue and now potentially the engine was blown due to the misdiagnosis and repair.

Ford does have a warranty on a number of parts, labor is covered as well, you'll have to see what your dealer says. They should stand by their work.

Various things can cause the P0299 (turbo under boost) code, it doesn't need to be a failed turbo charger.

The warranty helps then, totally understood on the P0299 being something outside of a failed turbo charger potentially. I had them do a full diagnostics the first time, and the result was them believing it was just a blown turbo, granted the turbo was entirely blown at that point.

Hoping it doesn’t wind up being an engine replacement in addition now.

I just hope no broken turbo parts ended up in the oiling system somehow!!But sounds like maybe they did if the oil pressure light came on!!

By "they" I assume you mean your dealership's service department. Check the laws in your State, but most have laws regulating repair warranties. You should expect that a repair effected and signed off by a manufacturer's service network will fix the problem. This is a legal issue if they don't stand by their work.

I wanna see that itemized repair bill. $4100 for a $300 turbo failure?
Yeah it was crazy $2,536 in labor.

I’ll post it when I get back home.

Turbo Charger assembly out the gate was around $475. Hoses, oil feed , clamps, etc added up

Ugh that's the killer, these book times are a joke and labor rates are even worse. Hopefully they get it sorted out for you and not just throwing parts at it. I have very little faith in franchise repair shops these days unless it's warranty work.

Agree. Will be picking up a extended service contact soon as I just passed 37k miles. I am in the business and these policies do pay, I have one on my RS for the next 5 years up to 125k miles. Lots of bad policies out there, read the contract and make sure you understand the coverage, exclusions, and policy aggregates. Just make sure you get an exclusionary contract. Everything is covered minus what is listed in the exclusions list, belts, brake pads, hoses, mostly just wearable items.

I'm waiting to see if I decide to keep my BS after the basic warranty.

Unfortunately we from Florida and California are not able to purchase discounted Repair Plans . Granger was not able to extend the plan to me. The state lists them as regulated insurance plans .
