I have 22 Sport Big Bend and I can't count the number of times I've reached up to the inside roof of the driver's door to grab a non-existent entry handle that every other door has. It would make getting and out a bit easier.

Has anyone else felt that way? Has anyone found an option for the Sport? At least, before I go pulling out ceiling panels, can anyone who has been under that panel, tell me if there is even a structure to install a handle?

In case it's not clear these are the handles I mean:

Maybe I'm too old school, but I thought those grab handles were for passengers to hold when driving was rough, and that driver doesn't have it because the driver is expected to have hands on the wheel when driving in rough conditions/environment. They are not for entry into and out of the vehicle. Just sayin'. :sunglasses:

My wife is handicapped and uses the one on the passenger side to get in and out. If it weren't there, I'm not sure she could get in or out.

I have one on the A-Pillar of my Expedition and use it every time I get in or out of that truck, so when I go to get out of the BS I am always reaching for it. I understand the logic of encouraging drivers to have both hands on the wheel, but at 66 years old with the better part of a Lowe's hardware aisle in my lower back, I could sure use the assistance a handle would provide.

In case you haven’t noticed, the forum is full of wannabe comedians. If you can laugh and be patient, I suspect that someone with less free time on their hands and more useful responses to your question will chime in soon. Till then, ??

Thanks for the encouragement. I was beginning to wonder.

We own a 1966 Austin Mini Moke. Grab handles for three passengers. First production vehicles didn't have them, and passengers were falling out. :)

The headliner is not attached around the full perimeter. You can grab it and gently pull down on it to see what’s on the other side. The roof is a structural member that must stand up (somewhat) to a roll over accident, so I suspect there is SOME structure back there to use as an attachment point for an aftermarket option. You might consider looking at the passenger side grab handle and how it attaches for some ideas.

The Bronco Sport is a small, low compact SUV, very different from a higher vehicle such as the full size SUV (Expedition, Escalade, GMC, etc) or a full size pick-up truck. Therefore, no obvious need for driver side grab handle on the Bronco Sport. As to your point, however, yes, I use the driver side grab handle every time I enter my wife's Expedition. It is there above the driver's seat because of the height of the vehicle.
MDwayne, good luck with any after market modifications on this issue.

When my mother-in-law got old, she found it was easiest to sit on the seat first, then swing her legs in. It did help to have a handle.

I wish it was there for functionality but also aesthetics. All the big Broncos at the Stampede had these sweet paracord grab handles on all four doors. I don't know why they get one on their driver's side but we do not.

I totally wish it had one, but it doesn't. I looked for it while browsing. I liked the handle in my last vehicle and they aren't just for people. Some people use the handles to secure rod storage systems. It's really lame that Ford didn't build with it. You can even see in the official Ford promotional photos of the cabin that it doesn't have it. I read someplace, by someone that dropped the headliner, that there wasn't any attachment points to add it with either.

I saw those too and was hoping there was an aftermarket item similar. The biggest concern is having something to anchor them too. I don't think the plastic would be strong enough by itself to hold it and someone's weight as well.

That's what I was afraid of. I don't really want to add something to be an anchor point unless it's an easy bolt on.
