When I got my driver's license around 1960, we still had to use arm signals out the window to indicate turns.?
Somebody please tell me they don’t still teach this. I remember learning it 30 years ago in drivers ed now, though I don’t think we actually had to do it. These days with your ? out the window raised in the air somebody would probably assume you’re flipping them off.

As weird as it may sound, if your signal was not operational, you should use your arm to let others know if you are making a turn. But you are right in todays world it could be the beginning of a road rage battle. What a sad commentary on our world.

Motorcyclists still use hand signals and they still teach it in riding classes.

How did we ever survive without a camera showing us where we were going backing up? ??
Lol 3 weeks ago was my first car with camera. It’s a tad overwhelming but useful. I went from a 1997 geo tracker to bronco sport badlands

Some of you would wither up and pass out if you had to drive a 60's vehicle. My Camaro is one...no power steering, manual brakes (drum at that), and horror of horrors, a manual transmission!

Oh yes, only one drivers side side mirror. Its a miracle I made it this long driving such vehicles equipped this way for so many years.

I get your point, but I was driving cars like that with 20-year-old strength, reflexes & attention span. I’m rather fond of all the amenities (nannies?) that make driving safer today. Even if they don’t help me that much I like the idea they are helping others who may not have all my skill and experience.

It's driving a vehicle without the bells and whistles of today that keep my driving skills sharp. If a vehicle today experiences a downed backup camera (for example), it seems the driver is lost with backing up a car.:crying:

I suggest moving your head to look back. Or, listen for the horn blast.

Better yet, put the cell phone down and pay attention!

Another stupid government requirement, I guess actually driving and knowing how to use the mirrors and back windows isn't enough

Well, ~200 people don't survive, 7,000 are injured every year, and 25% of all accidents involve backing up. And those are the current figures after reverse cameras were mandated in all new cars. Imagine if there were even fewer vehicles with reverse cameras. Check surroundings the old fashioned way, and then use the camera as a supplemental source of info.

Ideally there were would be little to no reverse incidents, but people are still people and don't always use the information right there in front of them.

I don't know who their supplier is, but they may want to revisit that if possible.
Ford doesn't care about quality any more the lowest bidder gets the contract for the camera's.

Well the CEO better revisit that concept. He promised to get all the quality issues and recalls under control by 2025-2026.

Going to be interesting what road Ford takes. They seem to be in the news a lot lately with another recall of some sort.

But most buyers don't pay attention and get their flavor of the day.

Good thing we have the government looking out for us......
