What did you do TO your Bronco Sport today?

Undeniably getting tiny bit of rub in certain positions. Oddly enough only drivers side. Do not bother trying to fold this thing over with a hammer. I went at it hard for an hour with a 3lb hand sledge and it did next to nothing. Ive read several Tacoma forums stating they beat theirs with a hammer, idk what the difference is but this didn't work. Had to resort to grinding her down. Ran some sealant over it then 3m rubberized coating spray for peace of mind. Eventually will hit the other side if I want to try and run 245/70/17s. Cranked her hard in all positions it used to rub and it clears fine now.

Try 235/70/17 Goodyear wrangler 30 inch no work needed.

First, this is your vehicle and you are free to do what you want with it. Second, it's too late to change your mind about doing this. So, for anyone else seeing this that wants to do this, keep in mind that the BS is a unibody vehicle. Cutting any part of the body means you are affecting the overall strength of the "frame" or at a minimum affecting the crash crumple structure. In this case, several welds have been removed. There is no way for any of us to know how this modification will affect the integrity of the BS "frame".

Anyone who is about to undertake this hopefully takes their time to research and will come across posts like yours. I know I did, and after continuing research this has been done by others specifically on this forum and we have yet to hear any negatives. I felt confident enough to move forward with it. The welded pinch remains connected entirely through that seam (no splitting), I also utilized heavy duty vice grip to pinch the end together even tighter just in case, followed by the sealent and 3m spray. Like you said time will tell but I feel confident in the integrity of the weld and frame after shaving an inch'ish off. Especially for the type of driving we do, don't plan to engage in any hardcore off roading that would place unreasonable stress to the frame. If we are talking "crash" scenarios then I"ll have more issues to worry about then the pinch weld.

This is similar to arguments against wearing helmets and seatbelts. As @Meanderthal said, it's your vehicle and you can do what you like with it. I prefer to maintain the integrity of my car's unibody to avoid "more issues" should I have an accident.

To me the arguments against helmets and seatbelts are shut down by the fact that if someone is in an accident and injured to the point of being incapacitated, they will then be cared for by the state (after their own personal financials are drained). So, like the old saying goes, your right to swing your fist ends at my nose.

I'm not sure I fully agree with this argument, mainly because if you crash on a motorcycle without a helmet you are far more likely to die, creating no burden to anyone. Be that as it may, this argument also applies to modifications that make your vehicle less crashworthy. If injuries you suffer in an accident are greater than they otherwise would have been with an unmodified vehicle then you increase the cost of insurance for everyone else.

You're comparing wearing a seatbelt or helmet on a motorcycle to trimming 1inch off a pinch weld ??? Sorry, can't really agree with you on that.

No, that's not it. I'm comparing your statement that you would have "more issues" to worry about than a weak pinch weld if you have an accident to similar statements made by those who argue against wearing seatbelts. My assumption is the "more issues" you refer to would be injury or death. It doesn't make sense to me to weaken the structure of your vehicle designed (in part) to protect you in an accident if you anticipate injuries should you have an accident.

Ah ok I gotchya. I guess that's fair, assuming the structure has been weakned, can't really say for sure, just speculation, given the fact no tests or measures have been taken to truly confirm this. We could argue all day that the 1in peice of metal I trimmed off could weaken the frame in a given scenario, but we'll never truly know.

Gave a good rinse today. Not 100% satisfied. Lacked some brushes and quick drying towel. Will buy them asap. But still tried to clean it as much as possible. Looks good. Loving my BSBB.

Finally got the engine cover mounting studs from Ford. I was able to install the engine cover and finish what Ford started. Although there are a couple more parts to really finish it on the way. This cover came off a wrecked 2020 Ford Escape. Now it has new life on my '23 BS.
