That was the main reason that I started this thread. If one person quits smoking in time to prevent their and their friends and family’s suffering from this disease, then that will make my experience not a total disaster. Even though I may never know of another’s success in quitting that comes from this, it still eases my mind that I made that difference. I thought it would never happen to me, but here I am. I understand freedom of choice, but IMHO, tobacco sales should be more tightly regulated. I would like to see the legal age to purchase tobacco raised by say, 2-3 years for every year that passes, until eventually you have to be really old to buy what is, in effect, a poison.
Totally agree with you, and thank you for sharing what is a tough time to be facing.

Thank you Randall. People’s testimony about their faith is very uplifting and both inspires me and gives me hope. I’m being re-baptized soon. I was baptized at a very young age, due to pressure. This time is by choice. Pray for me if you will.
I prayed for your this morning and will continue to keep you on my prayer list. I'm glad to hear of your decision to receive baptism again, this time with intent, desire, and full understanding of what you are receiving. My prayer is that when you rise up from that baptism you'll feel the holy spirit in your being, and know that you are in God's embrace. In preparation my friend I offer these suggested readings: Book of Acts, chapter 2:38 and chapter 22:16, as well as John Chapter 3:5. You are and will be lifted up in prayer from afar. Seize the day amigo.

Thank you for the prayers. I ordered a large print Bible from Amazon yesterday, should be here tomorrow. In the meantime, I can look up the verses you offered online. I’m planning on using the study guide, etc., to help me. I’ve never actually sat down and read/studied the Bible. I’ve heard a lot of sermons, and other people reading verses, but not the same, I think.

Study guides will help you. Even just searching online for "what is the meaning of..." can help you interpret most any scripture, and I'd keep looking up references until you feel you understand and that what's being presented makes sense to you. So as not to keep taking up space on this post, I'll send you a direct message. - R

I quit smoking 25 years ago and started again last September—three a day. I know I have to quit. I’m sorry for what you are going through and will heed your warning. I had planned to quit in September. This was Ma fuck-it year.
A little late in my response. I was re-reading the replies to my thread and drawing some strength from the replies. I quit once about thirty years ago. I didn’t smoke for about six months. I could smell a stinking cigarette from twenty yards away. Why did I start again? I really missed a cigarette after a meal, when i woke up, and after sex. I kidded myself that I could only smoke 4-5 a day. It wasn’t long before I was smoking as much as ever. Your three a day reminded me of that. It brings me joy to know that I had even a small part in your quitting those three. Stay strong. Keep your resolve for your family if not yourself. It breaks my heart to see my sister crying for me.

https://www.youversion.com/the-bible-app/. If you find the large print doesn’t quite work the app works very well too.

https://www.killthecan.org/one-dip-wont-hurt-will-it/. Your 4-5 reminds me of this article. Because anybody I’ve heard go down that road after quitting is soon right back to where they started.

Thank you for sharing and your willingness to be vulnerable here. I suspect you have helped more than one person by posting your experience and what looks to be your road ahead.

Like others here, I will pray that you find peace and comfort, and a smooth journey to you.

Thank you. The prayers and support from you and the other members of the forum mean a lot to me. I was feeling very alone in this.

Pigpen , you never alone as long as you reach out. This world is a better place because of people like you. You are still giving as the disease is trying to take it away.
Thank you and peace and love.

Not yet, I’ve had difficulty driving due to shortness of breath. I had oxygen tanks, but my disability due to my back pain (due to cracked vertebrae, spinal stenosis, and arthritis) made it very hard to use a cane or Walker and tote a heavy tank. But a friend bought me an Inogen G5 oxygen concentrator, much smaller and lighter weight. It arrived yesterday. I plan on getting out and driving my Outer Banks to the pharmacy tomorrow. They have a drive through window, so I won’t have to go in. Even with pain meds, I can only walk about 15-20 feet before my back starts screaming at me and I have to sit down or fall. I had to switch doctors a few months ago, because he moved to the end of a long corridor in the physician’s building. I could barely make it from the parking lot to his old office, which was just inside the building’s door. So, depending on how much walking is needed to attend a support group, it may or may not be feasible for me to attend. But thanks for asking. It’s not something that I had thought of. I’m still kind of in shock from the diagnosis.

There may also be groups at local churches. I've seen them here.
