I tried it once just for funsies on a random section of fire road just to see how it works and thought, it’s on my car I might as well try it out at some point.

I was surprised at how much noise it made tbh. Kinda grunts and grinds down the hill. And I came away thinking this could be useful for someone who doesn’t trust their right foot but I also wondered how much someone could use it before it starts to wear down a bit because it sounded like it was working quite hard especially for the small distance I had it engaged.

Edit: So it sounds like I’m not a fan, and really I shouldn’t have phrased things like I did, but I’m interested in peoples experiences with it and if it was helpful or not.

It’s just a general term for any unpaved road in the mountains of desert. So they’re all over, pretty common really.

To find them just look at any map you’ll see plenty. They are less common in the Midwest but a country road is effectively the same thing just different name.

There is a place we go camping that has a very steep road that has rocks, gravel, large divits and sometimes muddy. I use it often there and it works great going up or down hill. Nice to not over accelerate or have to keep foot on brake going down. I have not noticed much noise other than coming down sometimes and that is just the ABS working to prevent wheel sliding. I think it is a cool feature that has it's uses.

I use it every time I go off-road, about once a month, for the past 11 months. In a down hill situation it can brake each wheel independently, which on steep hills can be noisy but I find it very helpful for maintaining my speed and control going up or down hill.

I haven’t tried it yet, but got to see it in use from the passenger’s seat this afternoon. Really impressive! Honestly the BSBL has no right to be as good off-road as it is. The drive, helped by trail control & every mode provided to be sure, exceeded my skill level as a driver, and my pucker factor. Yet the Sport pulled through admirably!

I thought about it coming down from Deer Park just to test it out.

We sure put her to the limit lol. Honestly trail control was a huge help with controlled downhills and up-hills above 10% on the dash inclinometer. As I said to MJE its almost a cheat code

I've used it on long downhill decents in NM and CO. I just use manual gearing if I can, but there are times it's too rough and steep for M1 to make you go slow enough. Since it involves the brakes, I'm concerned about a lot of long-term use, but works well. Not as good as a low range, though. If the BL had a couple of inches more clearance and a low range I'd have the confidence to tackle almost anything. For the time being, I keep my BL's limitations in mind.

We used it at Bronco OffRoadeo in Texas and it was great.
We were shown that at Off Roadeo in Texas too. I'm glad they made us use it a few times. Very helpful.

Yep, her limits I’m not ashamed to say exceeded my skill level as a driver. Glad I was a passenger, thanks! The car‘s capabilities are definitely impressive!

I use it all of the time, and never noticed any unexpected noises other than ABS where appropriate. I definitely loved it for some water crossings at Drummond Island on the way to Fossil Ledges.

While maybe not what it was intended for, I use it anywhere the speed limit is painfully slow, such as 5-10 MPH in campgrounds, etc.
