I hit a deer, and broke the outer lense of my headlight.

Any ideas on a fix? I was thinking of just getting some some lense tint kit and just place it over the exposed area. I dont see alot of popular options for replacing just the outer lense. I just read a response about salvage yards. I will look into it. But i still would need the work done. Seems like a weirdly specific job. Not sure who would even do it. If the lamp itself were damaged fine, but its not.

Also the deer alive and well.

The only fix is to replace the entire headlight assembly. The front and back of the headlight housing are either glued together or laser welded. There is no way to replace a part of the housing, at least not that I have seen or heard of. I know that there was a time when you could heat up headlight housings and pull them apart. You could then glue them back together with limited success, but I don't think it is possible any longer.

Wouldn't it be covered by your insurance?, new headlights are pricey, unless you don't want to go down that road.

Depends on his insurance deductible.

I would expect that insurance will cover it. Don’t clean up any deer hair. They will want proof that it was a deer or other animal and not a post near the neighborhood bar!

A nudge bar might have helped to prevent damage. We have a lot of deer collisions in this area so I installed one shortly after I got my BS. I have had to hit the brakes a few times but have never hit one.

well i took photos, theyd just have to believe me or not. I havent washed the hood since i hit it. But i broke and swevred pretty well, like i said that buckeroo is alive and well, and it ended up being more like a violent NUDGE! where he just got pushed and slid. i couldnt beleive it there wasnt hardly any real damage, then i looked at the light and was like....fuuuuuuudge. maybe his hoof or antler.

The guy only left a few hairs on it. Think theyd bring out the forensic unit to search for dna? lol

I live in Wisconsin so the over grown woods rats are always getting hit. Just pays not to destroy any evidence. Let’s just say I’ve had more than my share of run ins!
