Been reading about these speaker set ups that fit in your spare tire well. Has anyone tried them or know of them? I have already replaced all the component speakers but I'm thinking I'm going to need an amp as the new speakers just aren't getting pushed enough from the factory radio.

Also if anyone has put subs in, where did you pull power and speaker wires from?

Thanks

Having a 10 inch sub installed today. going with a 10" punch and an 850w amp. I am not doing the install myself but i will update with how it goes. I have already replaced the door speakers and the sound change was night and day. To actually install an amp on the 4 door speakers gets costly. I am going to see what it takes to self install that part if needed after the sub install

ya the sound of my door speakers is great but they are not very loud and lacking in bass. I'm sure a small amp would be just enough to get the component speakers singing.

please update after the 10" sub install. where is the location your putting it? I like the idea of the spare tire well to keep my back hatch area free for storage as we like to camp and stuff.

Thanks

I think I have read that the spare well is not a good choice. I am just getting a stand alone box with sub. I know I will take a cargo hit, but it has a disconnect at the sub if I really need the space. The amp, I think they are going to put it under the back seat somewhere. I will post afterwards where it ends up.

The wiring harness adapter to put in an after market amp is costly from what I understand and iis currently the reason I am not going that route yet.

The amp went under the back seat drivers side. There is a bass knob installed (small one non intrusive) at my right knee area. The combination of the PB speakers in the doors and this sub is amazing and just what i was looking for.

You can only "see" the sub and the knob. Everything else is hidden.
that makes me want to look under my rear seat and see how much room i have under there.

not sure what route i want to go with but i'm doing something.

Thanks for sharing

So my 12" cerwin wheel well sub came last night. hoping.. hoping to have some time to install it this weekend.

I'm going to pull my speaker wires from the rear doors. My 12v power from the battery and not sure where I'm going to pull the aux power from. Any suggestion anyone?

If I pull from the fuse box I might end up with engine/electrical hum and I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Why go all the way to the doors when the stock sub wiring is right there in the hatch area?

I'm worried about getting to the wires for the rear sub. I do plan on looking into it but my default as of now was just get the rear doors.

I have taken off the door panels when I installed the new component speakers and it was very easy. If I can access the sub wires.. I will use them.

Just a quick update.. its sucks!!!

I already pulled it back out and shipping it back to amazon. Don't get the cerwin vega 12" wheel sub. it sounds so drony and the bass doesn't hit.. it just vibrates. very very disappointed.

Since I already ran the wires, I'm just going to put my Alpine type R 10's in there. I was trying to avoid that as i didn't want to take up the room but .. I like my bass for my drive to work and that B&O system.. just not very loud or have much bass.

I will post up pics of the new install when i get it done. Probably a few weeks.

I appreciate the feedback on it. I have a pretty decent Rockford Fosgate sub and 5 channel amp that I have been kind of meh about installing. One, don't yet feel like shelling out the $200 for the special harness to connect into the back of the ACM so I don't hack into my speaker wires (which I wont do) and Two, I don't want to kill the little trunk space we already have.

So I've had my eyeball out on the 'spare tire sub' options, but in my heart I always know you can't drive good bass without space for the woofer to breathe.

Keep us posted.
