i know the 1.5 four cylinder has a shady past, but so far (knock on wood) the lil 1.5 three cyl seems to be holding up well other than lil random things. Random little things i can deal with, catastrophic things i cannot, especially out in the woods.

FORD ALERTS CUSTOMERS THAT CERTAIN 2020-2023 MY BRONCO SPORT AND ESCAPES MAY HAVE A CRACKED FUEL INJECTOR

DEARBORN, Mich., November 24, 2022
– Ford Motor Company will urge owners of 2020-2023 MY Bronco Sport and Escapes with 3-cylinder, 1.5L engines to visit their dealership to inspect for a potential cracked fuel injector.

When the engine is operating, a cracked fuel injector could cause fuel and/or fuel vapor to accumulate near hot surfaces, resulting in a potential under hood fire.

“Taking care of our customers who are affected by this potential issue is our utmost priority,” said Jim Azzouz, Executive Director, Global CX Products & Customer Relations. “Once the repair is available, we will ask customers to schedule service with their preferred dealer. They can then take advantage of our complimentary pickup and delivery or a loaner to make sure the repair is completed at their earliest convenience.”

Ford is taking steps to minimize the inconvenience for customers, including providing an option to arrange for free pick-up, repair and delivery, in addition to owners taking vehicles themselves to Ford dealers.

Ford will:
Update the engine control software. To detect whether the fuel injector is cracked and, if so, provide a dashboard message to customers to seek service. Additionally, if a pressure drop in the fuel rail is detected, engine power will automatically be reduced to minimize any risk, while also allowing customers to drive to a safe locations, and stop the vehicle and arrange for service.

Install a tube that drains fuel from the cylinder head and away from hot surfaces, and

Check for excessive fuel odor near the top of the engine,
another indicator of a possible issue.
Ford has not issued instructions to stop driving vehicles under this recall.

This recall affects 518,993 vehicles in the United States. Ford is projecting a low failure rate for fuel injectors experiencing external leak(s) at 15 years/150,000 miles (approximately 0.38% for 2020MY vehicles and 0.22% for 2021-2022MY vehicles.

I don't understand. My FY 23 OBX is scheduled to be built on 5th December. I thought the FY 23's were starting production on the 1st of December. Why would this recall include the '23 models? Are they going to build them with defective parts and then recall them? Someone please explain this to me.

dang, i feel bad for the people who bought 2033 models
Well I feel better now knowing that I'm not the only idiot who was willing to wait only a year for my car. I wonder how many pre-orders there are for the 2033?

With everything left off the 2022 vs 2021 Bronco Sports now this recall and obviously other recalls, I think I will sell this Ford POS and by a CRV or RAV4. Jeez at least they are of some quality.
Good luck in finding a Rav4, I've been looking for weeks.

I read greedy rip off dealers putting huge mark ups on Rav4s too for the ones that are on the lot.

Of course it does not answer the question of pending scheduled builds of 2023 Bronco Sports. And it does not let me ask the question.
I am also wondering if they are going to fix this on the ones that are about to be built, or if they don't have the better injectors at all and they are going to have to build cars that have a recall built in.
I'm getting worried about my choice of vehicle I ordered.
I may feel like I'm eating crow if I seriously look for something different now. But I'm also going to feel embarrassed if I pay full price for a car that in effect is already broken.
My issue is, I don't like any of my other options out there as much as I like the look and options of the bronco sport. So I'm down to what might be safety (and quality), vs looks and options.

If your 2023my Bronco Sport hasn't been built yet it won't be affected by the recall since injectors in question were taken out of production on 10/17/2022 and have been redesigned.

I had the same question, and someone else explained to me that it's the 2023 escapes that are already being built

According to the NHTSA and Ford documents the fuel injectors involved have been taken out of production as of 10/17/22 and were redesigned:

The affected design was introduced into production on 11/19/2018 (earliest production date for
2020MY Escape) and were taken out of production on 10/17/2022 (latest production date for
2023MY Escape and Bronco Sport).
Affected vehicles are equipped with 1.5L engines.

188,436 Bronco Sport vehicles are affected.
Oh good.. that makes me breathe easier and gives me a little more confidence in Ford.
(My obx 23 currently has a build week of 12/5)

Yea BUT... Your shiny new OBX won't have a nifty OEM Software Controlled Fire Alarm like my 22 OBX will have (when/if recall is done).

Have you received any other emails regarding our 12/05 build week? Yes, we are in the same boat. Maybe a surprise your vehicle is in production? ?. I didn’t get my weekly status update on Friday from my dealer as he took a well deserved long weekend off.

I have not been getting updates from my dealer. That's ok, he's answered all my questions when I have them. I've been getting emails from Ford when they've moved my build week, so I've been assuming I'll get my next email either if they move the date again or if they start production. I did check my tracker today, and there was no change. When i get my next email I will touch base with my sales rep again.
