Kong nice
Kong knowledgable

whew, boy howdy Carolo
that's quite a stretch
(Kong posts) unadulterated blathering of a madman ?
nice......
well there goes my street cred
Wait...there's street cred available here? Wholy Moses.

On topic, the feasibility that a nerf cap led to a significant (read 20% increase) is beyond engineering possibility. It doesn't pass the eye test. You'd be more likely to have a micro gain applying wax and changing tire pressure/style of tire. I'm glad you have your engine hat, it's a nice aesthetic and may even keep dirt and water out of some components. It is virtually (?) Impossible it accounts for a 20% gain in fuel efficiency.

The fuel economy number generated by the car’s computer is notoriously inaccurate—typically on the optimistic side. For accuracy, fill your tank and set your trip meter. Let the trip meter run for three tanks while keeping track of how much you put in the tank at each fill up. Then divide the number shown on the trip meter by the gallons used. Do that and I suspect you’ll find your actual mileage is a few MPG less than indicated.
I've done mine a bunch of times and sometimes MPG is less than indicated, sometimes more and sometimes it's right on the money. It's never more than around 5% off though.

Are you measuring after a single fill up? The owner's manual (pg 159) recommends recording fuel usage over at least three tanks to get an accurate measurement. I've posted my records in this thread over a few thousand miles. In this post you can see the mileage from tank to tank varies quite a bit, but measurements averaged over three tanks are fairly constant.

I believe the reason you need to average over three tanks to get an accurate measurement is that you can't fill the tank to the same level every time, and driving conditions (temperature, winds, grade, etc.) can have a rather large effect actual and indicated mileage.

My 2021 1.5 Liter base model came with all the do-dads, even the coveted engine cover. The dash/screen shows 10% more mpg than actual when properly calculated by us old farts that now know better than to believe the software that Ford purposely set up to show us more than actual mpg. The dash is consistently wrong. Every BS is wrong as was my Transit Connect and my 2010 Mustang,
And my F-150. and,,, you get the picture.
Off the wall and open to debate :::
Turbo engines benefit from heat to a point, correct ?
Follow me,
Engine cover holds more heat near the top of the engine. Makes for a more stable internal even throughout the engine temp.
Efficiency goes up ?
6,7,8%
VS top of the motor is cooler so,,,,
Some sensor see’s this and the ECM sets the fuel air mix for a not fully warmed up engine?
Yeah yeah I know I’m way off but what If ?

As I mentioned, sometimes it's high, sometimes low, sometimes right on.

If I did an average over 3 it would come out pretty close to dead on.

Go spot on highest estimate of 8% gain...maximal 2 mpg increase yeah makes some sense but doesn't align with claims.

I took your comment to mean your measurements are informal, which are generally not considered accurate. If you don't write it down and keep track how do you know if the readings are more often high or low?

I check them every time I gas up and make a mental note. After 20 times or so I know whether it's trending one way or another.

I'm not one of these guys who records trivial things like this.

Who needs EVs when all you have to do is install an engine cover and gas mileage shoots up?

Sorry I honestly have not ever posted anything on a site like this. Mileage prior to install of engine cover was 29-31 have had the bronco sport for almost a year. It has been a week since we installed the engine cover and mileage has been consistent to 35-36 MPG. Regardless I just thought I would post about the change just an FYI for others and to be helpful. Thanks
What did the cover cost and what dealer did you purchase it from
