I think once you hit St. Louis that UP gives the estimated arrival date for when that car returns to UP. If you think about it, you’re tracking the rail car, not your car. I kept tracking mine past Shelbyville because I never got a notification that it stopped there as a final destination and I wanted to make sure it had definitely been there(…)
Was shelbyville your off-ramp? For me, United Road told me a while back an exact address in New Jersey where they’d be picking it up for the trucking part of the journey. Right now that’s showing up as “Placed At Industry” on Union Pacific railroad. I’ve been getting the faxes from their automated trace system, this is what it looks like:

I didn’t think Union Pacific traveled that far east. Shelbyville was my off ramp, but the train continued on after Shelbyville so I don’t know if it dropped off just mine or others, too. It also might have picked up some F-150s or Explorers because it is a yard that is used for both pick up and delivery.

I just know that UP was not reliable on dates at all, not even close for me and it continued traveling after my stop. Last I checked it was in Tennessee, but that was two days ago. If UP is the company taking it all the way to NJ, that will of course be different for you. Mine switched to Norfolk Southern in St. Louis, same car, different carrier.

How do you know which company is handling it? Both UP and Norfolk Southern are giving me information when I call (NS is usually more updated). The only thing I know for sure is that CSX isn’t handling it, because their information is totally inaccurate when I call them.

It’s in that document @thekingprawn shared a few pages back. Let me find it.

What does the ramp code tell you? I don’t see that on the AAR document.
The ramp code can tell you where a vehicle will be unloaded. It's not on the AAR document. The codes are Ford specific, the AAR uses a different system. Some people have been trying to catalogue the Ford codes, but the list is incomplete. The AAR list is good because it shows what loads and unloads at each ramp and which railroads services them. It would be nice if there was a single repository for all the information, but mostly it's a lot of cross referencing, informed opinions, and guesswork.

Car number stays the same. Keep following it. Also, mine stayed in St. Louis/Madison for almost five days, so don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t move for a while. It moved to Madison and I got excited until I realized it is part of the whole Interchange there.
Did yours say it was in hold status for the time it was there? Mine changed to that as of this morning.

By the time it hit St. Louis I was only using Norfolk Southern because UP was nonsensical. It didn’t say anything about hold status.

I’ve been using CSX so I’ll try the others and see what they say!

I never used CSX because mine didn’t travel that way. It would have been nice to know it was in hold status. Waiting for it to move again was torturous.

Well, I have crossed over from purgatory. Built 8/28. Awaiting shipment. Strange that it happened on a Sunday. Didn’t expect any movement over the weekend. But, here we are ?
Gotta be honest that trying to track this vehicle might drive me completely crazy so…. gonna let it be. Good luck to you all!
