The top five colours presently seem to bear out the general market. Three of the colours--Cactus Gray, Desert Sand and Area 51--are muted, more sedate colours that would tend to hide dust better and draw less attention. Essentially be less noticeable. And this is what a large percentage of buyers go for. Only 2 of the colours--Cyber Orange and Eruption Green--are more vivid and attention grabbing with only Cyber Orange being a truly eye-popping colour. Eruption Green is a more vivid colour, but it's still a relatively neutral tone that doesn't really jump out at you. Cyber Orange is that colour that no one can miss--it really stands out...if that's your thing.

Cactus Gray - 19.8%
Eruption Green - 17.0%
Cyber Orange - 13.2%
Desert Sand - 10.4%
Area 51 - 10.4%

Cyber orange hides the dirt well also, and other people can see you better in traffic, plus easy to find in parking lots LOL.

I had been considering Eruption Green. Indeed my first test drive was an Eruption Green Big Bend. After the drive I went home weighing if I preferred the Eruption Green or the Atlas Blue I had seen on the dealer lot. When I became more decided I wanted a Bronco Sport I used the Ford website to Build & Price what I wanted and chose the Hot Pepper Red I preferred. Imagine my surprise to learn my local dealer had one in that colour (either they had just received it since I had been there or I had missed it somehow).

I would add I’m not immediately sold on a given colour. For example I’m not fond of colours like Race Red, fire engine red or Ferrari red, that sort of thing. I have seen blues, greens, yellows, browns and others that have had some sort of vividness to them that really appeals to me. The tone and overall finish are what seal the deal.

Purely subjective. My personal take on these colours.

Love it. The tones are bang on and eye catching in a good way.
- Atlas Blue
- Cyber Orange
- Hot Pepper Red
- Rapid Red
- Ruby Red

Like it. Very nice, just not my favourites.
- Eruption Green
- Peak Blue
- Velocity Blue
- Yellowstane

Okay. Pleasant enough, but muted and blend into the background.
- Alto Blue
- Area 51
- Azure Gray
- Bronze Smoke
- Cactus Gray
- Carbonized Gray
- Desert Sand
- Iconic Silver
- Kodiak Brown
- Oxford White
- Shadow Black

Looking at my own list it’s easy to see I prefer colours that pop on in some way. I like a colour thats inviting and draws you to it. But someone else could see it exactly opposite where a more muted tone is more subdued, less attention-getting and more reassuring. A lot of the muted tones could also be seen as easier to care for and showing dust less.

There are a lot of different reasons why a particular colour will appeal to someone.

With 121 voters, in order of popularity.

Cactus Gray - 19.0%
Eruption Green - 15.7%
Desert Sand - 13.2%
Cyber Orange - 11.6%
Area 51 - 10.7%
Azure Gray - 7.4%
Oxford White - 7.4%
Robin's Egg - 7.4%
Hot Pepper Red - 6.6%
Atlas Blue - 5.8%
Kodiak Brown - 5.0%
Rapid Red - 5.0%
Ruby Red - 5.0%
Velocity Blue - 4.1%
Alto Blue - 3.3%
Carbonized Gray - 3.3%
Iconic Silver - 3.3%
Shadow Black - 3.3%
Peak Blue - 1.7%
Bronze Smoke - 0.8%
Yellowstone - 0.8%

Interesting. Of the top five colours the majority are muted colours. Of the top ten colours again the majority are muted colours. And this does tend to reflect what we see of buyers choices and what we see on the road--the majority tend to choose muted, less noticeable colours.

There is a blurry line here because there are colours like black, white, dark blue, dark brown and even bronze or medium brown that might not be seen as muted, but perhaps they can be qualified as such because they tend to blend in rather than stand out. This could certainly be said of light blues, light yellows, silvers and greys. If you do qualify those tones as muted then it reinforces what we see that the majority of buyers tend to choose more muted colours.

Vibrant Colours:
Eruption Green - 16.0%
Cyber Orange - 11.8%
Oxford White - 7.4%
Hot Pepper Red - 6.7%
Atlas Blue - 5.0%
Rapid Red - 5.0%
Ruby Red - 5.0%
Velocity Blue - 4.2%
Peak Blue - 1.7%
Yellowstone - 0.8%

Muted Colours:
Cactus Gray - 19.3%
Desert Sand - 13.4%
Area 51 - 10.9%
Azure Gray - 7.6%
Robin's Egg - 6.7%
Kodiak Brown - 5.0%
Alto Blue - 3.4%
Carbonized Gray - 3.4%
Iconic Silver - 3.4%
Shadow Black - 3.4%
Bronze Smoke - 0.8%

If you separate the colours you see Ford offered a pretty even choice between vibrant (10) and muted (11) colours. Muted colours account for 77.3% of the voters choices and the 63.7% for vibrant colours, noting that voters are allowed more than one choice. If voters had been allowed only one choice I'm inclined to think the ratio would have still been similar with about 70% choosing a muted colour while the remaining 30% or so choosing a more vibrant colour.

Speaking from my own limited experience this seems to be reflected in dealership expectations as most of the vehicles I see on dealer lots tend to be muted colours.

Voting has slowed, but the trends from our very small sample size seem pretty clear.

Far and away the most popular colours: Three very muted neutral colours and two more vivid colours.

Cactus Gray - 19.1%
Eruption Green - 14.5%
Desert Sand - 13.0%
Area 51 - 11.5%
Cyber Orange - 10.7%

Two colours which are the least popular were also available only on Heritage models so it's hard to say whether it was the colours themselves or partly because not many people are fond of the Heritage models.

Peak Blue - 1.5%
Yellowstone - 0.8%

Our first BSBB had Area51 paint which was my first choice when I had ordered a Maverick in 2022. Delays in that order got me looking for a BS, which we really wanted anyway and found our dealer had one ordered with the Area51 paint and other adds we wanted. Two years later I was at the dealer getting Spooky serviced and while wandering the lot, came across a BB with Azure gray metallic and I flipped over it. Took pics and, when I got home showed it to the boss who seemed to know where I was going with this! Well, a month later, after the dealer sent us a letter with a special incentive inviting us to trade our Spooky for a new 2024 BS, Lo and behold, the same BB I saw earlier was still there! Maybe the black appearance pkg kept people away from her, maybe it was the price, which was in the OB range, but I didn't care. The dealer gave us a great deal and we swapped for her. The metallic color is a bluer shade than the Area51 but there's still a hint of gray in it that makes it unique, and the black roof and accents make it pop.

Could be. On some level I like the Heritage model, but there is something about the white grille that turns me off. I know the 1960’s Bronco model they’re trying to evoke had a white grille, but on the modern Bronco it just doesn’t seem to work the same.

Mind you it doesn't seem so off on the Yellowstone colour possibly because white and yellow don't contrast much. But there is greater contrast with the Peak Blue. But Robin's Egg blue seems somewhat popular and it is/was available only on the Heritage models, and like Yellowstone there isn't much contrast between white and the pale blue of Robin's Egg.

Actually the more I look at it I feel the red letters on the grille are what don’t look right. They could have left those white like on all the other Bronco Sport models.
