I also have Toyos, but the open country AT3 instead of MTs. I drive in the sand in SE TX a lot. They seem plenty good enough for sand (though I do wish I could fit wider tires), and the tread is open enough to handle stretches of salt marsh mud. Fairly good pavement performance too.
Honestly, the sport is a blast in soft sand. At least in the badlands, you've got a pretty nice power/weight ratio and other than clearance being an issue sometimes, it'll power through things nicely.
Width is going to matter more than tread in sand. Sure, what's good for mud is bad for sand, but width rules all when it gives to deep soft sand. Tread just doesn't matter too much as long as you can spread the weight out over as large as area as possible in sand. I'd rather have a tire that can handle a bit of exposed mud on the beaches here than one that's fully optimized for sand.
