Try magic eraser, get them at you local stores.

Then use the Clay Bar for bug cleaning

Rain-X used to make a great little claybar kit for windshield, but any would do nicely. I'm not even sure the magic eraser would be necessary.

don't use a pot scrubber on the newer windshields. My wife did this as well...and it scratches pretty deep..unfortunately other than replacing the windshield or Rain-X and other brands do make windshield repair kits with a cleaning/rubbing compound you are kinda stuck. Sometimes there are 'free windshield' repair pop ups at the local mall near us, not sure if other areas do the same.
I know it's bit hindsighted, use bug and tar remover instead along with a clean microfiber cloth. safe for glass and safe for paint.

Since January my windshield has taken two hits from rocks. First one very small but today a larger hit that will need replacement.

What gives?
