I just talked to the Ford Sync hotline. They told me that error code VER_ERR08 has to do with the incorrect vin #.
Is it possible you downloaded the update for your wife's vehicle?

That's the one I'm trying to update. My OBX is all set with 188 and I just got the new maps for it. Ford owners site tells me her '20 Ecosport is out of date. I updated the new version to my computer. I used her vin to get it. Thats the one I can't get to load via USB. I took it to the dealer, and he had no success either. He supposedly went through the Ford Wi-Fi site. No luck. I'm thinking the new ACM the other Ford dealer installed in March may be the problem. The new update is for my Vin, but maybe the new ACM doesn't recognize that vin.

This may be the solution. I'll keep you posted.

If you want you can follow steps (a) and (b) in my post.

And I am not 100% certain about all causes of Error Code VER_ERR08 but I think that error can also occur by not precisely following Ford’s Sync update installation instructions. Because I am not there with you i cannot see everything you did.

I have not found a good list of all error codes and their definitions that also define the cause of the error.

Good luck!
Check this out! It may be the answer!

Yep but I didn’t send that link to you bc is TMI. Instead in post #8, step #a, you perform the special type of sync reset by holding down the indicated buttons for the full 2 minutes.

have you had time yet to perform steps #a and #b shown in post #8?

And if that doesn’t work, as indicated in post #8, you insert a Master Reset after step #a but before step #b. I recommend not adding the master reset unless steps #a and #b result in the error code VER_ERR08

Tomorrow I'm going for a long ride in my OBX. I've got the new map USB to install. Friday I'll try again and let you know how I do

Got the NA 2 22 maps installed to go with the Sync 3.4.23188 in my OBX. I did the 2-minute reset Dude recommended on the wife's Ecosport. I'll try to install 3.4.22200 in the Ecosport tomorrow.

Just to be clear .. you will want to do the sync reset (2 minute procedure as described earlier) tomorrow .. immediately before doing the Sync 3.4.22200 install in the ā€˜20 Ecosport

No luck! I did the reset for 2 minutes. When I inserted the USB, I got a software updating message. About 20 minutes later, I got the VER_ERR08 code again. I'll try a master reset next week as a last resort. If that doesn't work, I'll keep what I got. I'll probably be trading this vehicle in a year or two anyway.

I don't know if the master re-set happened. I went to settings, then to general. Scroll down to re-set, hit master re-set, then it says continue. When I hit the continue button it turns blue, but nothing else happens. Shouldn't the screen go black etc.? I shut the vehicle off, came back in 15 minutes and started it up, and I had the normal screen. How do I know if its re-set?

Are your saved settings and channels still the same? Master reset should act as a factory reset and will have reset them.

Yes! All the setting are still the same. I hit the continue button and it turns blue, but nothing else happens. At this point the screen locks up. I either have to shut the car off for a few minutes or perform the quick re-set. This always seem to work and brings up all my original settings.

You have the classic issue of ā€œmaster reset locks up the screenā€ and you did the right steps to get out of that condition.

It is sounding more and more like the APM in your ā€˜20 Ecosport doesn’t have enough free memory to support the upgrade from Sync 3.4.21194 to Sync 3.4.22200 even though you did the Sync reset (2 minute procedure as described earlier).

Any chance you will be out west anytime soon with that ā€˜20 Ecosport? I might be able to get the Sync upgrade to work by scanning through ā€˜20 Ecosport forums looking for someone that got this upgrade to work without resorting to use of CyanLabs.

Or perhaps @thomasm23 has ideas to get the update to work for you,

Thanks for the invite. I'm in New York and 79 years old. I don't see that trip in the future. That idea makes a lot of sense. We took this car to the dealer we bought it from last February because the screen was blacking out. They went back and forth for several visits and finally changed the APM. It probably wasn't the same type that was in the vehicle from the factory. After a week or two, we were having the same problem. I hoped doing the upgrade would help. We can live with it, and just do a quick reset if necessary. I don't see us keeping this vehicle much longer. Many thanks to you and the other folks on this forum for trying to help an old man with a non-BS problem. With your assistance I have updated Sync version and maps in my OBX. I'm very grateful for that.

I had trouble updating Sync on my F350. In my case, the solution was the formatting on the USB drive. The Sync update had to be on a drive formatted with exFAT and not FAT32. When I exFAT formatted the drive and downloaded the Sync onto the exFAT formatted drive, it installed correctly. Calling Ford Sync "Help" walked me through the entire process and they diagnosed the problem quickly. It has to do with the individual file size limited by FAT32 where exFAT has an unlimited file size.
