do these clips just pull out with brute force, or is there a trick? or a special tool (besides the usual trim removal tool)?

If its anything like the taillight housing covers to unhook them. I had to brute force them apart, carefully. ?

I found that hose pliers work really well to release them from the inside.

you can't get to the 'inside' of these.
Yes you can, it’s not easy but you can. Maybe you are referring to the piece that is on the door? The pieces that are on the fenders are generally in conflict with the fender liners but you can kind of get one thing out of the way to release the other with some four letter words and a little bending.

I used the smallest version in this set:

The long reach and the bent end allow you to get into some places that otherwise would be impossible to get to.

the fender pieces, yes.
and yes, the lower four clips can be reached by pulling back the inner fender liner, but the upper five go "blind" into the body structure. i can't see a way to get to these.
can somebody help me get these off???

Can you post a picture of the clips you are having an issue with?

the picture in my initial post is from a parts listing for these rear wheel arch moldings. the four clips on the inner radius can be reached by lifting the inner wheel well liner. the five clips and three locator pins on the outer radius go into a double-wall body structure, and i can't find a way to access the back of them - therefore also no picture.

That hitch install video shows how NOT to remove these wheel arch moldings.
There has to be a trick.
Has anyone out there successfully removed these?

I've removed them to replace a rear and front bumper and, as far as I can tell, there is no way to remove without breaking a few.
