There is what appears to be a sensor in the middle of the dashboard by the windshield. Everything I can find says sensors and cameras are either mounted in the grill or up by the rear view mirror. Can someone tell me what it is?

not sure. In my experience with other Fords that I own, it is the automatic headlights. We don't have our BS yet, so can't be 100% sure

The sensor on the dash is for the auto headlights. This is not to be confused with the auto high beams which the sensors for that are located on the windshield behind the rearview mirror.

I would say just go by what everyone else has already said. I just want to point out how smart the sun load temperature sensor is and how much of a life-saver it is when remote starting the vehicle. If it detects it's cool outside, it will run the max defroster and the heated seats/steering wheel if equipped. Or if it's warm outside, it will blast the air conditioning. To me, it's incredible that the sensor can pick all that up. It is a wonderful feature if you haven't used it already. Same goes for remote starting from your phone using the FordPass app. It will function the same way as if using your key fob. I have it on my Maverick as well and it's truly a wonderful feature and wouldn't want another vehicle without it.
