I'm sure there are going to be plenty of folks that disagree but I am of the mind that I bought a car and I don't want Ford telling my insurance, the government, or anyone else about my driving habits. Not that I have a lead foot but it is none of their damned business if I had to accelerate to pass a potentially hazardous situation and exceeded the speed limit, had to do a quick stop because of a possible animal strike, etc. Last thing I want is for that to happen and some algorithm decides my car insurance is now going up- it is expensive enough as is with multiple vehicles and my umbrella policy for work. Much as the commercials suggest it, I'm not putting their nanny device on my car for a lower rate.

This link on the Gladiator forums has a ton of info about how to disable your nanny monitoring. There are links within for sites to disable telematics for most manufacturers. And just so we're on the same page: Stellantis by example invested $20B in a telematics company and has frequently has shared this with insurance companies and God knows who else.

Do with this info as you please.

That's going to take some time to go through....but yeah....take it from someone who NEVER joined Facebook, and I sure as heck don't have Alexa in my home. I know I ooze metadata everywhere, but I sure as heck want to make it as difficult for them as possible.

That whole insurance sh!t really gets to me.

The short answer is: it's impossible to fully disable telematics.

Even if you could, the data is still downloaded when you go to the dealership.

Until DC decides to protect personal privacy from all the bad players (tech, auto makers, etc.) instead of filling their campaign coffers from them we'll remain screwed.

So what to do? Besides alternating between crying (because our freedoms are perishing) and cursing (because our freedoms are perishing) I'm looking at two alternatives. The first is trying to find an in-good-condition, pre-1996, well-supported (with parts) vehicle. The second is a story for another time.
