The Eclipse Improves Your Gas Mileage

I just drove from Southern Illinois to Central Illinois and my gas mileage was an amazing 28 mpg whereas I would normally get 23 mpg. It was due to the eclipse coming!

(it could not have been that I passed a cop taking radar every ten miles for all the people heading toward the eclipse so I drove 75 mph instead of my usual 85+)

I am by far no photographer but I thought this pic was interesting. It is after the moon had covered the sun and with the glasses on, you would only see a sliver of light on the right. But my cell phone showed it like this:

Mine broke even yesterday! Zero miles but also no gas used! I took the 2 door out for its maiden run this year.

We were at 87% totality. Pretty much a non event compared to 100% my brother saw out in northeast Ohio.

My mpg was quite a bit lower than normal! Mainly because I wound up with an F150 V8 from the rental place in San Antonio

We were only getting about 12 mpg. Then again, we were at 8,500' over Cape Girardeau going 180 mph. The image below looks like sunset, but it was taken at totality right around 2p. Zoom in and you can see both the eclipse and Venus, below and to the right.

In this image you can see the solar prominence that scientists were excited about. It's the bright spot on the bottom.

My friend Dale took some great shots on the ground from Hot Springs, AR, just a few miles south of us. You can clearly see the prominence we saw, as well as many others.

I could take a picture right now that looks exactly like yesterday's eclipse looked, so I appreciate these photo shares. I did get one little peek in a cloud hole around 10:45a when it was just starting.
