I’ve heard from a couple sources that manufacturers may “spread the pain”, using domestic price increases to somewhat offset or subsidize import tariffs.

Kinda defeats the alleged purpose of the plan, doesn't it.Yep! Heard from a friend today that folks at Ford are exploring many options, including reducing their US manufacturing footprint substantially and moving most of it to Mexico - where there are no tariff to get steel, aluminum and other parts from other countries….this is a way to avoid paying tariffs multiple times since parts can cross borders multiple times.
This is a ‘quiet’ plan that would ensure Ford’s long term sustainability…we could start by seeing a full removal of US parts going into the build of a Bronco Sport or a Maverick…
all options on the table…Kinda defeats the alleged purpose of the plan, doesn't it.

Thats why the word war, is in Trade War.all options on the table…
I am actually worried about the Detroit 3 reputation outside the US…this could escalate to a point where the rest of the world isn’t interested in doing business with the US anymore and weaken its position…
