SYNC update question

I currently have latest version 23188 installed via USB and all seems fine.
If I activate Automatic Uploads, this huge file attempts to download. Any idea what it might be? I was told that MAP updates can only be done via USB and not through WIFI

I see you have Navigation. Share with us your current Navigation Maps Version. Current version is NA 2 23

The file that is downloading is a Map update file. You are probably not on the current version of Maps.

You entitled to 3 years of opportunities to update maps at no charge.

What year is your vehicle?

The last time I did a MAP update it was on my 2019 Ranger. As a result I lost all of my NAV history, favourites, recents, etc.
I also lost the ability to use Voice Commands. Had to do a Master Reset so also lost all Radio presets. What a mess.
Not worth the trouble.

You have never updated your maps. You were probably running SYNC 3.4 Build 22251 which has serious issues preventing any Map update being downloaded.

Your 2023 vehicle came from the factory with NA 2 21 You missed the NA 2 22 map update. We are currently on NA 2 23 Maps.

The version that is downloading now is NA 2 23 Maps. You receive 3 years of opportunities to download a Map update at no charge. These are released once a year. This is a large multiple file download. It will continue to download in the background and then install on its own. If you would like to speed things up and control the download, you can update via USB flash drive.

The no charge Map updates will download on your vehicle. After the 3 years, you will have to purchase and update via USB flash drive.

NA 2 24 will be released very soon. This will be the last Map update you will have the opportunity to download on your particular vehicle at no charge. After that, the download is $100.
