Does a roll up kayak device work on the BS? It would have to suction on the back glass windows. Also saw one once that flipped down from the back crossbar. On my Honda Element that device was too far forward. Would it work on a BS?

I’ve seen at least one owner post their rollup kayak setup and it worked fine (much easier on/off access)… don’t remember a suction on the back glass however

What brand roll up kayak device are you considering

Maybe this one?

Will need to measure the rear glass to see if it will fit like this one with its measurements

I wonder if being parked at a kayak site all day if it would still be on the vehicle when the owner returned

I will be picking up a whitewater kayak this weekend and have been looking at the best way to load and unload a kayak to the roof rack since I usually go alone. I saw some YouTube videos suggesting using a shower mat on the side of the vehicle and I will likely try that. The rubber on the bottom of the mat keeps the mat from slipping while sliding the kayak on top of the mat, protects the vehicle.

I don’t recall how it was attached and instead it could have been a pvc ramp to get the kayak onto the roof or maybe I’m thinking of the Thule Hullavator… sorry don’t remember the details

i tried the suction cup thing, but like all suction, it's a pain and doesnt stick well.
so i went with something like this, works great:

Just use "charlotte" pvc, its thicker.

After being dinged $200. years ago when turning in a lease with a scratched roof from loading kayaks I bought the "Thule" WaterSlide mat, their part #854. Similar to the rubber bath mat idea mentioned above, it has a non-slip rubber side that sits on the roof, and a slick fabric top side that the kayak slides over and onto your roof racks. 2 attached velcro strips tie onto your roof racks to keep it in place, but I only need them when the wind is blowing. The same strips wrap up the mat tightly for storage. With this set-up I can load my kayak solo from the rear quarter panel side, leaning it upright on the BS at an angle and held in place by the extra long load bar that. extends a few inches past the rear window. I then grab it by the stern and slide it up on top of the waterslide and onto the load bars. When tying down your boat try to have the tie-down strap over at least 1 of the internal bulkheads (not all 'yaks have them) ... sometimes you have to spin your boat around and have it go down the road backwards to place the bulkhead over the load bar. If you reef down too tight you can "oil-can" your boat, hence placing the bulkhead over the load bar when possible. If only 1 load bar will sit under a bulkhead it is more important to have it placed on the front load bar where there is more wind force from your windshield to shift your load.
Here's a YouTube video -

As long as we're talking safe kayak loading, here's another tip I swear by - Thule Hood Loops
https://www.thule.com/en-ca/products-_-529999
This gives 2 front end tie down points to keep your boat from moving when passing tractor-trailers at high speed.
