A tire that is worthy of consideration is the BFG Terrain/Trail. Has the look of KO2s, but less agressive tread and a better highway ride. I haven't compared the weight, but guess they weigh less.

I have 245/65 KO2s on my current BS, but considering the Terrain/Trail on the 23 I have on order. Also looking at 245 Falken Wildpeak AT3. Anyone have either of these tires and can report your experience.

The K02’s can be found currently for a really good price because they are changing to K03’s. Many on here seem to like them. There are also those that say they are not the greatest in rain or snow. I happen to really like the optional Falken’s for snow and rain. Time will tell how long they last. Off road they seem to handle anything the Badlands can handle.

My first jeep I ran 30/9.50s with an open rear diff and I had to work to get it stuck.
Yes, but what was the approach/departure/breakover angles for your Jeep?

The amount of people that purchase Wranglers to do the Rubicon is minuscule compared to the number of jeeps out there.
Agreed!

What will we say when a fully electric capable off roader comes along. Will it not be a real 4wd if the cpu controls wheel power individually with no differentials at all, or need for them? I propose that for the most part the badland/FE AWD systems negate the need for 4low. I'll let you know once I put proper tires on it if it fails to take me where I want to go, until then I'll call it a 4wd.
I meant no offense or disparagement of the Bronco Sport with my previous post. Ford's "Intelligent 4WD" system has been proven many times over by independent testers to be quite capable, in many cases far more capable than its competition. I've proven this to myself at the Badlands Off-Road park in Attica, IN last month. Based on that experience, I'm confident my Badlands will take me to the places I envisioned when I purchased it.

I guess my primary point is this: My Badlands is equipped with factory-optioned Falken AT3W tires, and I don't believe different tires will provide much better off-road capability.

BTW, my mention of low-range and locking front axles regarding the definition of "off-road vehicle" was meant to define capability, not required equipment. As @NMhunter mentioned, clearance is another issue for the Bronco Sport, and due to wheel-well limitations, that can't be adequately addressed with tires or a lift for the Bronco Sport.

A full-size Bronco, on the other hand, comes from the factory with the clearance, tires, and drivetrain features that make it capable of tackling just about any terrain you can throw at it. When some smart cookie designs and builds an electric vehicle with the same off-road capability as a Bronco, then yeah, I'd consider it to be a true off-road vehicle.

OK so this is my new to me Badlands 2021. I was able to find it with less than 10k miles and new car smell and a hell of a deal. I have a theory, since I see a few 21 badlands on the market with low miles, is that people that don't usually purchase off road vehicles purchase the badlands and first editions thinking it will be a vehicle comparable a similar size Buick or Lincoln only to realize they are small off roaders and not small luxury cruisers. Apparently it was a lock down(lots more stuff to say about that, but I'll bite my tongue) purchase and was parked for almost 2 years or just used for market runs and then traded in for a Honda.

Now that you read thru that. it still has the factory Scorpions on it. The fact that they sell off road vehicles with these type of tires on them makes me want to dig up Henry Ford and punch him in the face. Off road vehicles deserve off road tires. Now these threads are full of three brands the Goodrich ko2, the toyo at3 and the Falken wild peak at3. I am leaning towards the toyos, here's the question. Why not go to America's Tire and purchase another comparably aggressive tire, but for much cheaper. My best off road tire I ever had was the ironman all country at and it handled great on my expo. It's a name I don't see on these threads, so what about the other brand names I don't see? With the same size tire does the manufacturing process make a huge difference? America's Tire sell tire sets that range from around $500/4 to close over 1k/4. So without giving me the you get what you pay for argument. Is there a reason to drop close to 1k for those Toyos? Are there better less expensive options?

Ironman tires are made in China. This is the number one reason I won't consider using them.

i like my K02's. probs about 45,000 km on them right now (mostly highway). Super good in snow, ice, rain and muddy roads. Nothing bad to say about them tbh.

We are getting stuck in the weeds here though. What I was originally asking was for some hidden tire gems. Ones that aren't the normal brands we see posted. But keep stirring that pot. There's plenty of soup for everyone.
I got you now. I have always thought these tires looked pretty solid and were a good value: $120 at Wal-Mart (currently backordered at DT) - Radar Renegade AT5:

@Bronclahoma the BFGoodrich Trail T/A weighs less at 39lbs than the KO2 at 45lbs. It's a great compromise for those who want the look but not the weight or noise.

Wonder if they have the 3 peaks on those. I have had exp with the wrangler ats and the Ironman both with no 3peaks and the former had me sliding off the road in a mild snow and the later had my wife and kids crawling past other that had slid off the road. Didn't have much luck with my big Os on either. What about everyone else? I won't be spending a lot of time on snow and ice, but when I do I am carrying precious cargo (pastramis), and my kid I guess.

I recently measured the tread depth on my OEM Wildpeak tires. They are at 5/16", which equals 10/1632". According to Falken, they started at 13/32", so I've used 3/13" of tread for nearly 17K miles. If you divide 55,000 (warranted mileage) by 13 you get 4,231 miles per 1/32" of tread. 3/32" equates to roughly 12.7K miles. Based on this, it appears I'm on track to get the advertised 55K out of these tires.

I think you have a typo ‘ They are at 5/16", which equals 10/16” ’

Did you happen to measure your OE Wildpeaks when new?

another owner posted their OE Wildpeaks when new were 11/32” not 13/32” because at least some of those OE tires were not to the non-OE tire specs.
Corrected the typo; thanks! No, I didn't measure when new. If mine started at 11/32" then I've only used 1/32" for +15K miles. That's gonna take me far beyond the 55K warranty!

Yep somehow you drive lightly perhaps your tires are raised off the road slightly due to those coil air bladders you installed… increases tire mileage 30% ?
