Has anyone brought their Bronco Sport in for a noise that was built after this SSM date of February 25, 2022 and the dealer replaced the cable and the noise was gone? I know that many people on the forum refer to this SSM when posts about similar noises are made on the forum. If I show the dealer this SSM as a possible cause of the noiseI I am afraid they will look at the SSM and they will say this does not apply to my situation and ignore the SSM. It would like to be able to push back on the dealer and tell them that this can still be an issue after the build date in the SSM and the cable should be checked.

SSM 51184 2020-2022 Escape/Corsair, 2021-2022 Bronco Sport - Hiss Or Rattle Noise While Driving - Manual Park Release Cable Some 2020-2022 Escape/Corsair vehicles built on or before 17-May-2022 and 2021-2022 Bronco Sport vehicles built on or before 25-Feb-2022 may exhibit a hiss or rattle noise while driving. This may be due to an internal issue with the manual park release cable. If the noise is eliminated when the cable is disconnected from the transmission, install a new manual park release cable assembly LX6Z-7D246-T. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-05 > Automatic Transmission External Controls > Removal and Installation.

I believe I was one of the people who suggested you research this SSM in regards to the noise you reported. Sorry about that; as you note, this SSM applies to earlier MY cars. I believe Ford deleted the manual park release cable for later MYs, so this is not likely the problem with your car.

Thank you. That is a question I will ask the technician when I am able to drive with him to hear the noise to verify that the cable was deleted.

Are people confusing the transmission neutral release cable that was deleted with a parking brake release?
The transmission release cable was accessed via a removal square port located lower left of the steering column. The transmission release to neutral cable prevented the car from automatically putting the car in Park when the engine is shut off.

My BS was built on 02/11/22 and this updated cable fixed the dang noise.

I finally was able to get my BS Badlands into the shop for the engine compartment noise. I mentioned the manual parking brake cable because the noise sounded very similar but only lasts for a couple of seconds. The tech in his initial video that they send to the owner said the manual parking brake cable was deleted in 2022. So both cables (neutral release cable) were apparently deleted. The tech and the Forman did drive another badlands and found it made the exact same noise. They contacted Ford. Hopefully they come back with a solution and not it is a normal noise, The noise can get very loud.

Do you happen to have any updates ? Was your noise a clicking kind of noise?

No updates yet. To recap I was hearing a "grinding like" noise when driving at low speeds that sounded like it was coming from below the engine when slowly accelerating to about 17 mph. It only lasted a few seconds but was able to reproduce it. The Forman drove another Badlands at the time and it made the same noise so I was basically told it was normal. The noise went away during the summer months with the warmer temperatures but we had a couple of cool mornings recently and I faintly heard the noise a couple of times. I believe as the temperatures get cooler the noise will be more prominent again and it will be interesting to see if it happens in the winter as well or goes away with the cold temperatures. I still do not believe it is a normal noise even if another BS made the same noise but unless it is more consistently happening and is very noticeable I doubt the Dealer would even look further into it.

Originally the dealer did not try and locate the noise. I was hoping that they would use the Chassis Ear tool while driving my BS but when they drove the other BS and heard the same noise they stopped doing any further diagnosis. I resigned to not pushing the issue until/if the noise consistently comes back in cooler weather and can push the dealer to at least try and locate the source of the noise before contacting Ford Engineering again.
