So I asked for a breakdown of the price. Sticker price was around $28000. Big Bend. $500 rebate. $3000 down. $2000 taxes. They said I'd be financing $31000. Extended warranty, price unknown but 48 months 7 years. Gap insurance. Numbers are approximate as I don't have the printout. Seriously, way too many numbers. I just don't get it. Is it $4500 for gap insurance and warranty, dealer fees, whatever?

DO NOT BUY GAP INSURANCE WITHOUT CHECKING WITH YOUR OWN INSURANCE COMPANY...mine quoted me at $4 (FOUR DOLLARS) per year... We have Citizens insurance as the company...my agent said NEVER get gap through a dealership it's a giant rip off. While you are at it, ask about full glass coverage. I covered two cars for $84 for a year. Covers all window glass zero deductables.

Don't buy gap insurance at the dealer, call your car insurance company.
Somebody will come along and tell where to get the extended warranty online and save you hundreds if not thousands.
Some insurance companies ( Geico among them ) don’t offer Gap insurance.
i dealt with a broker ( for personal reasons)and he gave me GAP insurance for $935 would have been a lot cheaper to get it thru my insurance ( $130 per year $65x 2 ) not only was it more money but I am paying interest on it as well ( this was my first loan so I was not eligible for 0% no credit history) I now know better for next time!

That’s nice , mine quoted me at $130 a year. I guess that’s because I am young and still learning to drive safely!
well, you have me there, I am in fact old. But I am shocked it was that much more. My agent even wants me to call back and go through our policy to see if we can shave more money off. I'd say $130 still beats over one thousand which is what my dealer offered.

I think it is Ziegler Ford

ask your dealer to match their pricing they might be willing to.

Everyone's situation is different, some are young and getting established, and many are facing various financial challenges in life, but avoiding GAP insurance should be a goal as it is money out the door and rarely needed.
As we get more established, we can generally put more down on a vehicle and negate the need for GAP Insurance. I recall the recommendation is usually 20% to avoid depreciation loss if needed. Or if you choose not to put 20% down, but have the equivalent amount of cash to cover the equity/loan difference, then that money may best be left gaining interest.

For sure. And when dealers ask over a thousand and your insurance company is closer to one hundred...I'd say a hundy is still a wise option. But I also agree with money out the door if you never need it.

That’s what I did for my esp Ford warranty and made them beat it by 50 dollars. I had blown a 3.5 echo boost engine on my Lincoln MKS 2010 fortunately it was still under warranty the tab on that was 9700.00 crazy.ever since that I buy ESP FORD WARRANTY.
