Unexpected microburst in the area, winds up to 80mph, and lots of localized flooding.

So who else got hit? Ma Nature turned it up to 11 without warning. SRP says restoration by 1 am in my area (central Glendale).

Trash barrels knocked over in the street, pool nearly overflowing and full of crap, and my backyard weather station broken. All in a ten-minute span.

Weather can be amazing and terrifying, all within just a couple minutes. Glad it wasn't worse.
Yeah, this one was a serious “where did THAT come from?” moment.

Our neighborhood lost power for a bit over six hours. Some parts of the Valley aren’t expected to be restored until about noon.

Just checked the SRP outage map, there's customers around Buckeye that may be waiting until tomorrow morning. And all SRP will give you for your trouble is up to $10 for ice.

We got lots of wind , lightning and some rain… no power lost in the west valley (Thunderbird/L-101 area)… freaked the dogs out, but otherwise, not much going on over here.

What part of the valley are you in?

That’s strange… Glendale got about ¼ inch of rain (didn’t see any reports for Peoria)… but the Thunderbird/L-101 area we didn’t get much rain.

We had another round of monsoon storms over night… even less rain last night (for us) that the night before… but lots of lightning, thunder and wind… haven’t seen any reports of power outages from the latest storm...

This is the kind of activity that we used to see throughout the month of July… when the calendar flipped to August, I thought we were done with the monsoon season… apparently not.

We’ve been in the Valley for going on 30 years now, and while monsoon season hasn’t changed much statewide, the Phoenix metro’s share of it has been less and less every year. I think the heat island effect is growing and pushing out most of the storm activity.

Absolutely agree… we’ve been here since ’77, and we’ve seen a lot of changes to the Phoenix area, both in terms of growth, and the weather changes… as the “city-fied” areas expand and the amount of concrete and asphalt grows, the weather is affected. I remember even in the hottest part of the year that the nights would dip into the 60s and 70s… now, it’s not unusual to see overnight temps in the mid- to high-90s or more.
