Yep, OK. SA did mention that the dealer isn't taking any chances, cause they don't want to be on the hook if the worst happens and the head gasket goes.
Wow .. do they see many blown head gaskets in the 2.0L used in Bronco Sports? Would be a good question to ask the SA but I never know how much they really know.

I didn't even know about a potential problem until they told me they would check the pump, so I don't know how real or how big a problem this could be.

On one hand, if there were a big problem, we'd have heard about it here, or on some other forum, right?

On the other hand, they DID run the leak check, so the chance of a problem is non zero.

Ar least in this instance, Ford seems interested in catching any problem as far upstream as possible.

Thanks for the info. It is strange. Im a lurker on the Maverick forums also, and haven't seen any water pump complaints. I'll make sure to keep my eyes peeled from now on.

Yes I think we would have heard about issues with the water pump and head gasket in 2.0L Bronco Sports if there was a potential problem. I’ve only heard of a couple 2.0L owners with water pump issues which is why I posted the 2.0L water pump part number at the top of this thread. Those owners could just have had defective water pumps. In your specific case, the head gasket was mentioned but haven’t seen wide spread posts about head gasket failure in the Bronco Sport 2.0L engine.

Service Advisors might know more systemic issues if they read reports from Ford and at their own service department, in this case it’s also possible the SA is remembering gasket issues in older 2.0L engines which there are many reports and class action lawsuits but those 2.0L engines are not the same design in Bronco Sports. At least that is what other owners stated in various threads on this forum.
