I just purchased a 2023 Badlands that came with Pirelli Scorpion ATR tires. After really lookat the tread design, I’m not sure I want to go through a New England winter with these hockey pucks.
I have an opportunity to pick up a set of Big Bend Rims, and am thinking of going with a set of Blizzak WS90 winter tires.
First, has anyone gone thru a winter with the Scorpion ATR’s, and what did you think about how they performed. Second, does anyone know for sure, if the Big Bend rims will fit a Badlands. Thanks.

I haven't gone through a winter with the Pirellis since I just moved from AZ, but I decided to change them asap after experiencing dangerous driving conditions in the western NC rain. We get up to 100 inches of rain per year here and it's considered a temperate rainforest. The Pirellis hydroplaned a lot...even slowing to a crawl to go through puddles. I even noticed some slipping during normal driving conditions. Sold them at 9000 miles and replaced with 245/65r/17 BFG K02s. No more issues and I feel way better about the coming winter.

Yes, Big Bend rims fit the Badlands. Every trim uses the same bolt pattern.

Thank you for the reply. We don’t get that much rain here, so hydroplaning shouldn’t be a major problem but if they are prone to hydroplaning, I’m sure they won’t perform well on ice.
“Winter tires it is”.
Thank you also for the rim info. I figured they would be interchangeable.

I did several months of Colorado winter on the stock Pirellis. No issues, even on icy inclines above the tree line. I’ll change them eventually, but I think they’ll be fine for the upcoming ski season.

I rarely encounter wet roads, because Colorado, and defer to those who live where it rains. :)

I live in Puerto Rico, where we get some rain, specialy June 1rst-November 30st, hurricane season. I drve a Badlands with the Pirellis. This is the first time ever to experience hydroplaning in my 39y driving. Considering Geolander g105. Enjoy your ride.

Thank you for the reply. Interesting to hear of their performance in icy inclines. It’s also stopping that gives me some concern. I’m thinking the softer materials of winter tires in colder temperatures might be beneficial. But I’ll keep the Pirelli’s for summer driving.

I be especially mindful of driving in heavy rains with these tires. And be sure to change them out sooner than later when the tread starts to wear. Thank you for the reply.

I also have a 2023 Badlands with the ATR’s. After reading several reviews on these tires I decided they aren’t the greatest tires especially for winter. I recently manage to find and buy a set of 17” OEM rims and have ordered Blizzak DM-V2 snow tires. I’ve run these tires on my F-150 and Ranger and found them to be excellent on ice and in the snow.

I took delivery of my 21 Badlands with Pirellis in February 2021 and haven’t had any issues with southern Ontario (Toronto) winters.

I live in Central NC but I've experienced some ice storms in the western mountains. I don't think that any tire could provide traction when that ice is on the ground. Stay safe.

We’re on the same page. The Pirelli Scorpion ATR may be an ok tire for other locations but I think I’ll feel safer with my family on a better snow rated tire.
Thanks for the reply.

I’m very glad to hear that’s your experience with these tires. I’m curious if your driving is mainly back roads or highway. I’m driving a combination of both and am sincerely interested.
Thanks

You raise a good point. My driving is virtually all in the city.

While I have the Falken option on my BL, I can say I did drive on the Pirelli's at the Off-Rodeo in New Hampshire and was blown away at how capable our little BS is. Now I didn't drive in snow but there was definitely a good dose of mud and rocks and the BS took it all like a champ with the Pirelli's. I don't think the BS cares what kind of tires it's wearing since the AWD system works so well. I guess I'm trying to say don't discount the Pirelli's without trying them first. The Falkens have been amazing for me in the snow through two Winters. Now, if you do go with the Blizzaks you will definitely outperform any other tire and you'll be driving an absolute snow monster!! Plus the Big Bend rims look pretty darn good too.

My 2022 Badlands came with 225 Pirelli's . I am sure they would of been fine but after 5,000 miles I traded them in on some 235 BF Goodrich Trail Terrain T/A's. They look much better on the Bronco and are a three peak rated. They worked excellent in the snow last winter and off road. they are also quiet.
