More like <$1,000 for a conventional HEV, ~$4000 for a PHEV.

For comparison, the 2020 Escape SE Sport, which has the SE features plus the hybrid engine, full digital dash, leather steering wheel and black wheels is only $1160 more money than the Escape SE with the 1.5L Ecoboost. I would assume that pricing would be similar for the Bronco Sport. We will have to wait and see

The good thing about the hybrid is that it has a naturally aspirated, 4-cylinder engine that has been around for years (Mazda L derivative) and has solid reliability. The 2.5L engine was also beefed up with forged rods and chromoly cylinder liners, both unusual for such a low output engine.

Having a CVT is a bit of a downer, but the Escape hybrid reviewers have noted that it is a good CVT and the power plant is a solid package.

Hybrids made a little bit of sense when they were getting close to 50 miles per gallon when a normal engine was getting only high 20s miles per gallon. Now a normal vehicle gets over 30 miles per gallon combine. Or a hybrid still only makes about 45.

It depends on how much you drive and what you are paying for gas. In San Diego, the cheapest gas is around $2.50/gal, Say you drive 15,000 miles a year. Estimate the worth of the digital instrument panel + leather steering wheel + blacked wheels at $460. That leaves only $700 difference in cost between the hybrid and 1.5L ecoboost. This scenario pays off in about 2 years in San Diego.

Now if you have $1.25/gal gas and drive half as much, your looking at close to 10 years.

you have to do more city driving tho. City is close to 30 mpg vs 42mpg. EST.
where highway is 33 vs 38.
and gas Is bouncing around 1.3-1.9/g in Ohio.

CVT on a hybrid makes sense. CVT struggle low and high end speeds. Where hybrids thrive,
