So.. still in my quest.. but a new competitor has entered the running. Discovered that the VW Cross Sport is finally shipping with the 3.6L engine, which removes one of the big gripes I had.
I really wanted to love the Bronco Sport, but it just feels a bit small for me.
Yeah, if I'm spending another ~10 years here before moving.. with CA going to war on gas vehicles, I may need to rethink.
I REALLY need my work to figure out what "normal" is going forward.
Other thing for me is waiting for my work to define what the new normal is. If I continue WFH 4+ days a week it opens up more options, but if I go back to the office full time, and gas headed to $4+ a gallon and sitting on the 405, well, some hybrid might be in order.
I'm not that big, but.. yeah... It's probably something I could get used to, as I'm not hitting the door or anything, but coming from my Ridgeline, it's not the ideal fit. (And to be fair, the Sport has better seats than many of the competitors I looked at).
Also need to sit in a BL with...
Well. I finally visited a dealer that had one on the lot. My fat ass was not impressed with the seats, and my back wasn't impressed with the support on the base model seats. The info panel also is annoying to me, but I'm also not used to them.
Think I'm gonna take a step back and wait for...
I'd also suspect here that ethanol mixes, visiting stations regularly with crap in their tanks, and wholesale mixing is a bigger issue than "good" gas from a major brand, even Arco.
Of course, if the BS is that sensitive, I'll go back to the Passport with it's V6.. :sunglasses:
Well, the other thing I know, at least here in SoCal, unless you buy the racing grades, you never know who actually made it anyway. A neighbor used to own a company that delivered "extra" to multiple branded stations.
Oof. Been starting to hear about this for the Sport. That significantly raises the cost of driving out here in CA, and good luck trying to get non-ethanol...
Do you just want the biggest ride on the street? There's a lot of bloat in those other vehicles. Also your camera angle is a bit deceptive, the others are viewed at an angle, makes them feel bigger.
Yeah, the real thing is usable space. 2 cf of amorphous space someplace in the cabin is not nearly as important as:
Does the center console hit my leg when I'm in cruise mode? It does in any of the Jeeps, and some others.
Do I feel like I'm leaning against the door, or does my fat ass feel...
There's probably about 20 on lots in ~50 miles or so.. but only 4 Badlands that I see, and, only one BL+BL, and of the ones I scrolled through.. about 100, 4 Red, 1 Cactus, ALL the rest are white, silver, or black... sooo many black..
Sigh. Knew it was gonna be like that.. but damn...
The thing with the Cherokees is their interior. Tried one, and the glare from the interior back at the driver when the sun is on it is terrible. They also feel cramped.
But the point about pricing is fair..
That's fair.. but the Compass says to me "small and underwhelming" as well as something about who I typically see driving Compasses.
Passport is probably most comparable to the Atlas Sport, which would be a great vehicle if they ever offered it with the larger engine.
What I really want? a...
I dunno.. as I just commented, if you read his reviews regularly, he pretty much hates the Bronco Sport. He's an excitable guy, and he didn't get excited about the Sport at all. (Of course, he normally gets excited about buckets of rust).
The continued comparisons to the Compass have me...
Well, David Tracy, the Japolink guy, basically hates it with an undying passion.. if you read his review, he really has nothing positive to say. (Of course, he has to veil his comments, or Ford would never invite him to ride again.)
Of course, David is the "I love rust buckets" kinda guy...
I'd prefer cloth just due to heat.. but it feels like you either get cloth seats and the AM radio, or leather with everything..
All manual seats would be annoying.. and a lot less adjustable.
Yeah, I'm gonna wait to test drive one... concerned that it might be a bit too snug, but have to wait and see. But package wise, I'll go Badlands+Badlands.. I've had my current vehicle 14 years now, so I don't want to scrimp to save a few bucks, and regret not having some features for the...
Yeah, it is loud.. but.. at work (back before WFH and all that) I used to see 2 vehicles that stood out... an orange Crosstrek, and an orange Cherokee. Both looked really good and rugged.
At least in CA here, there are SOOOOOO many black/white/silver vehicles..
My ideal color would be...
