Thx badlands and dude
re RDU - and turbo flutter explanations. yes the 2.0 engine sounds more solid! I test drove 2.0 but went with 1.5 for better gas mileage.

@KK1 the last video definitely is just the turbo flutter from the recirculation valve closing and totally normal for the 1.5l its super pronounced vs. on the 2.0l. It will only do that when you are on and off the throttle quickly.
Thank you.

After listening to the video - We hear this noise on almost every Bronco Sport / Maverick that comes down to the shop. Ford Edge experiences the same thing.
There is this:

“whirring noise on startup from the rear”
RDU (Rear Drive Unit) differential shop manual shows there is an electric motor (two electric motors for Badlands) that disconnects the RDU (differential) from the driveshaft.

I had the same issue for my 2024 Badlands that I bought in Feb '25 new. Took it in after reading this thread, and dealer said it's normal. Yes, they identified it as the RDU. and it was compared to several other cars on the lot and they had the noise as well. Sounds like they are throwing an explanation out there to see if it sticks. All cars don't have this noise, so if some don't, why do some have it is the question. I may take it to my old ford dealer across town. I trust my service advisor there. Good guy for 10 years on my explorer.

Let us know if you decide to go to your old ford dealer - would be interested in what they tell you

Well customer Service got involved and I got a more detailed answer from the service advisor. "i spoke to the technician, he stated thatt your Bronco SPort has a dual motor on the RDU and per the workshop manual from Ford, the noise is a characteristic of the system and no repairs should be performed." Of course I followed up with ? - why do some BS have the noise, some don't, and some develop it over time. Crickets. Will follow up with C.S. and let you know.

The whirring noise on startup is normal as mentioned in the earlier comment: “whirring noise on startup from the rear RDU (Rear Drive Unit)”

Your Badlands might be missing the insulation that goes under the full size spare tire which could be an explanation of why the whirring noise is more noticeable on your Badlands
