Hi,

I have had my 2022 Bronco Sport Outer Banks in at the dealer four times related to an intermittent noise coming from what I think is the top corner of the windshield on the passenger side for the last two months. For some more context, the windshield was replaced in September 2022. Because of the intermittent nature of the noise, the dealer said that they were unable to hear it consistently enough to address the issue. I have weeks worth of videos of the noise which they have seen, but still no progress. The dealer made small "fixes" under the hood as an attempt to fix it by zip tying the windshield washer fluid tube to something because they thought it was flapping. I pointed out to them that it seemed that the sealant at the top of the windshield on the passenger side did not extend as far as the driver side and that the roof rail appears cracked near where it meets the glass and I can wiggle it with my hand unlike the driver side. They claimed that they looked at a BS on their lot and said it looks similar so stopped investigating the windshield.

At this point, I am very frustrated. I have now decided to take the car back to the dealer I purchased it from, they were also the dealer that replaced the windshield. Essentially, I am looking for some guidance on how to get this issue fixed. This will be the 5th trip into the shop and I seem to be getting nowhere and don't want the same process to repeat at the dealer I purchased it from. I have attached two videos of the car making the noise to perhaps get some advice. The first is just the windshield making the noise as I drive. The second is me simply tapping the glass where you can hear the noise being made, again due to the intermittent nature, sometimes when I touch the glass this does not happen.

Because of the file size, I have attached them to a google drive folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1K7Q6pT2qM_UH7f-odMFR1fcvHodd2c1B?usp=sharing

Any and all guidance to navigating this issue would be much appreciated.

I have read a lot of threads on this forum but I have not seen this issue. That’s fucking crazy! But most disturbing is the sentence “Because of the intermittent nature of the noise, the dealer said that they were unable to hear it consistently enough to address the issue.” And it is disturbing that they have seen these videos and say intermittent. Because those are not intermittent at all and this should be enough for them to evaluate and fix ASAP!

I hope @Ford Motor Company jumps in with assistance.

Good afternoon! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your concerns on my end.

When you say intermittent, does that mean it doesn't always make that noise when you press on the glass? If so, you should start a log tracking weather conditions—mainly temperature—when it does and does not make the noise. If you can narrow down the conditions under which it is most likely to make the noise then you can make an appt to meet with service techs when it's most likely.

Have you demonstrated this sound to a technician and had them acknowledge they hear it? If not, I would INSIST that the technician who will be working on your car ride with you so they can hear the noise and/or allow you to demonstrate how to recreate it. Once the tech acknowledges the noise then you have a case with FoMoCo.

I haven't heard your vids yet but this just happened to me. I just had my second windshield put in. Ever since Safelite put the first one in I have had a water leak I need was coming thru the windshield, down the a pillar to the passenger floor. I won't go into my frustration with Safelite, I will never use them again. Anyways when my second one went in a couple weeks ago by a different company there was clear evidence the pins in the windshield to center and align it when installing had been dragged thru the seal causing a path for water to enter the car. Could something similar cause your issue?

They claim that when they have had it is does not make the noise as bad as my videos and thus can't diagnose it. The noise does come and go, but I hear it daily.

I'm uncertain. There is no visible water in my car or a leak that I am aware of. However, part of me thinks maybe moisture is getting where it shouldn't because of the windshield being improperly installed and that could lear to the noise. That being said, I really don't know.

Hi, correct the glass does not always make the noise. I have done some tracking like you suggested, but I cannot notice a pattern, the temperature range is always between call it 6-12 degrees celsius but there really isn't a trend I can track. They have had the car under these conditions.

The pressing on the glass is a newer discovery so I have not demonstrated it to the techs, however they have had several videos of the noise and they have acknowledged to me that they have heard it themselves while road testing, just with not enough consistency to pinpoint. When you say, then I have a case with FoMoCo, what does that process look like.

At any rate, I will keep tracking like you suggested. Thank you!

My windshield is still original but we sometimes get a kind of flapping sound coming from the same area on the driver side and to a lesser extent the passenger side.

It typically happens at highway speeds when the wind is stronger

It isn’t normal wind noise.

We did have the dealership take a look but the they claimed they couldn’t hear it and said it was inconsistent.

The windshield feels solid but the black plastic on the A pillars has some movement. I’m wondering if there are issues with the weather stripping and/or glue (whatever they use) around those areas on Bronco Sports?

What I meant was that once a tech acknowledges the noise they are obligated to fix it. When a tech says it's not "consistent" enough to track it down that's another way of saying they can't hear it, and Ford can't help you make a tech fix a noise they can't hear.

The next time you go in show them the noise it makes when you press on the window. That should give them all the data they need to diagnose and fix the issue. If they still say it's "inconsistent" then you can ask to speak with a regional Ford rep. Alternatively, you can take it to another dealer, although that's probably not a simple thing where you live.

I preach the regional Ford rep all the time, when you exhaust all options with the site techs. As Mark S mentions, ask to take the tech out on a test drive with your vehicle. Point out the issue. If for whatever reason that tech still cannot identify or correct it, go the route of the regional Ford rep .

And one last issue: be polite! Don't get angry or verbally abusive. That will not get you anywhere with anyone involved.

Thanks, I will keep the regional rep route in mind. I have been on a road test but the noise was not made then, only towards the end of the visit which the tech said, again, not enough frequency to address.

I always tend to go the "kill them with kindness route" so definitely no anger towards the staff, more just expressing frustration with the issue as a whole.

We all go through it. Been there and done that. I now try to take a step back, then breathe.

Joined here just to share something, I have a 22 Bronco, not sport, but was experiencing the same issue. It ended up being the trim caps at the top of the windshield for the roof rack mounting points rattling in the wind. Took 2 years before it started.
