New Rough Country 1.5" Lift

Hey Everyone,
I wanted to share my experience with the new 1.5 Inch Lift Kit from Rough Country. The installation process was straightforward and took just about 4 hours. I would say anyone with the required tools for installation, a couple of jacks, and a hydraulic lift jack could easily do this. I've wanted to put a 1.5" lift on my BS OB for some time but wasn't content with the spacer kits. I also decided to put BFGoodrich KO2 255/55/R18 tires on my BS while I was at it. I got to test out the lift and new tires this past weekend scaling a mountain road in a town nearby. She handled like a beauty and I've received many compliments on the upgrades. I am hoping to put the modifications through some more rigorous tests sometime soon.

Do you have any rubbing or anything with 255s? I got 245s cus I thought there might be. But after seeing it I thought I may have been able to go a size bigger.

I have not noticed any rubbing. We tested it at the dealership and didn't feel or see any rubbing as well. I had to do sharp hairpin turns up and down the mountain road I was on with quite a bit of articulation on the BS with no problem.

Shoot I probably could've gone a size up then. Still, with gas prices right now I'm okay with 245s XD.

How are the shocks/dampers? How is the ride compared to stock? This seems like a better solution then spacers.

I've been looking at that same kit from RC, but my concern has been voiding anything under warranty. I'm guessing by having it done at the dealership the warranty is not affected.

The use of aftermarket parts affects your New Vehicle Limited Warranty in three ways:

1. The parts you install are not covered by your warranty.
2. Anything you break during installation is not covered by your warranty.
3. Damage caused to your vehicle by use of the parts is not covered by warranty.

The remainder of your vehicle remains covered by your NVLW. In other words, you cannot be denied warranty coverage for a malfunctioning entertainment system because you had a lift kit installed.

Having your dealer install the parts covers number two in the list above; if your dealership service department breaks something during the installation they will be on the hook to repair it. Numbers one and three are still at issue. If your aftermarket part breaks you must go back to the vendor who sold you the part to get it replaced, and it's doubtful labor will be covered. Further, if the lift kit causes damage to your vehicle those repairs will not be covered. It will be up to Ford and the dealership service department to determine if the lift kit is the cause of any damage.

The only way around number three is to get a warranty statement in writing from your installing dealership. It would have to say the dealership will cover any damage to your vehicle caused by use of aftermarket parts. Although not unheard of, obtaining such a warranty is rare.

I've had my rough country installed for about 12,000s miles and the clunking noise started happening. I contacted rough country and they sent out a pair of sway bar end links to replace mine. They got hollowed out from all the impact and jarring the lift was making on the ends links.

I went up 4x4 and on my way home I started hearing that sound again. The driver side end link on the sway bar became loose again. 17" extension tightens the bolt but after another 100 miles I started hearing another clunking sound. I checked both sway bar end links and there tight.

Many 4x4 shops say rough country is reputable. After this incident, I refuse to purchase any other there products moving forward. I can't believe they were able to put this flawed product on brand-new cars.

I'm going to purchase sway bar links from whiteline. That's the only cure I see in sight.

Any other recommendations I would greatly appreciate it. I feel like this lift kit is doing permanent damage to my bronco.

i think there were issues with the RC kits. There are a few threads about them on this forum. More options are becoming available now.

They should discontinue that product. At this point it's greed. All there reviews on there website have to be BS.

Rough country censors their reviews for sure but apparently not enough to get past google search abilities. If you google search a product and look under the "shopping" results you'll see the product show up in the results if purchased direct from the Rough Country website. The results will show for instance a total of 8 reviews for the product on the RC site with a 3.5 star rating yet when you click on the link there will only be 4 reviews showing on the RC website with a 5 star rating. They let some 4 star ratings slip in on their site too but it seems like anything less than 4 stars and they censor it off of their website.
