Congratulations to all the new Bronco Sport owners!!! Just wondering how you guys are doing during your 1,500 mile break-in period. Those that are trying to follow the break-in guidelines, are you avoiding freeways and taking side streets so that you are always varying your speeds?

Break-in suggestions for first 1,500 miles (compiled from the forum):
  • Don't go over 80mph
  • Avoid exceeding 4000 rpms
  • No full throttle starts
  • Vary your speed frequently (don't drive a constant speed)
  • Don't tow
The only breaking-in I follow is on new tires(to let them bond to rims) and brakes (to let them settle in) Decades ago a car magazine recommended varying speed and drive as you normally do.

Is this just a forum suggestion or is there a break in list in owners manual ? Other than twing I do not see much on break in period.
Ford does say not to tow the first thousand miles, not 1,500.

I just clipped this bit from page 258 of the owner's manual. Pretty straightforward, just take it easy for the first 1000 miles and you should be good.

Interesting. This is changed from the manual for the 2021 MY, which says nothing high speeds or towing.

Too late now, but highway and cruise control is not good for break in. You should vary the speed and if possible include some engine braking. Being close to the mountains, that is where I go for break in.

Always heard that but honestly never had issues with any of my new vehicles. What's the worst that will happen that the warranty wouldn't take care of?

Power and efficiency are mainly what are lost. Usually the break in procedure is outlined in the Owner’s Manual.

So you’re not supposed to use Eco mode during break in? Oops.
Oh? I use it quite a bit to avoid the high rpms. Already put like 300 miles on it since I got mine last Thursday. Mainly stop and go. 20 mpg so far and loving it compared to my f150 9 mpg.
