I finally cleaned off and dug out my BS... well truthfully, I started it for 15 minutes via my phone so it mostly melted and then just drove it out of the snow pile :sunglasses: . No actual scraping or shoveling required except for one thing. My wipers were buried in icy snow. On my Jeep I used to raise the wipers for storms and thought about maybe shutting the BS off halfway through a swipe, but we also got 75 MPH winds and I was busy putting stuff away and forgot the BS. As annoying as this is I really like having the wipers out of sight behind the hood the rest of the time.

I think I tried to raise them like that but the arm would hit the edge of the hood and they wouldn't stay up. It's going to be tricky when it comes time to change wiper blades.

Or just leave them up but still touching the glass if you're worried about wind. They won't be stuck and it will be easier to clean behind the hood.

Make sure when changing the wipers you do as listed above. There is actually a TSB and thread about it cause it could actually mess up the motor if you try to change them in park position.

Important TSB regarding changing the wiper blades

This was my situation after our combination of freezing rain, sleet and snow yesterday. I could not get the ice out at all with the hood closed. It was too thick to slide out from under the hood's edge. Luckily when the hood opens it lifts up at the windshield, too. Pictures are after I cleared the driver's side. I'm not happy with the wipers themselves either, at least when it comes to clearing snow. They're fine with rain but while driving around in the blizzard last week and the icy mess we just had, the ice collects on the wipers and does not break off easily like on a standard wiper and the whole blade loses contact with the glass. Reaching out the window and giving it a little slam does nothing. Btw, this is the first car I've owned with beam style wipers. I just got the Bosch ice wipers so I'll see how it goes with them.

Notice that I also have hood insulation and an engine cover. . . . . I know, that was mean. Sorry (not sorry)

I stuff a pool noodle in, offset a bit a second noodle. (Wally world about 2 bucks each.)
Then on goes my Frostguard, and it’s two mirror bags, gotta keep those pre collision warning sensors clear.
I’m not about to leave my wipers up where they could get pushed or bent the wrong way with ice or snow..

Thanks everyone. We took our Sprinter RV out of the barn, put the BS in the barn, and are on our way to Florida. Problem solved ?.

But I think when a storm is coming it is wise to leave the wipers up as per the blade changing Technical Bulletin instructions.

Well this is nifty. Least for getting your blades up and not have to worry about motor damage. Ford needs to look into doing something similar

Ford did do something similar. Previous generation Escapes (and Foci for that matter), likely amongst other models, did exactly this. After you turn off the car (press the button or turn the key), hold down the wiper stalk for ~3s and it'll put the wipers up just like this. No idea why they did away with such a helpful feature.

Turn the car off with the wipers on so they stop at the top of their swing. Then turn the wipers off. Fold them up and that's it. They will stay like that on remote start but must be flipped back down before getting in and pushing the start button or they will go to the off position and scratch the hood edge. Quite simple really
