Minor Paint repair $1700

Noticed a scratch and a couple very small dents in my wife's Bronco Sport. Think one of the grandkids might have hit with a bike. Could have been a shopping cart. I managed to pull the dents out. The scratch was all the way through the paint, about a half inch long and eighth inch wide in the center of the door. I dabbed some touchup paint in it but could still see the blemish. Went to a local body shop to see if they could fix it. Said they had to remove the door, repaint the whole door and replace my First Edition decals for $1700. I told them no insurance company involved before the estimate so they weren't trying to burn an insurance company. Would have been a lot faster if they had just told me they weren't interested in a small repair.

Look up “scratches happen” paint repair kit. It comes with primer, and clear cost and the paint match is spot on. I just did a post about this recently and mine turned out really well. The kit is only like $30.

The price doesn’t seem terribly unreasonable. That’s what it’s going to take to fix it the right way.

When I get a chance I'll try a couple other places. Don't see why the door has to be removed to repaint. Maybe I'll just have to proudly point out the battle scare form hardcore off roads.

These shops are crazy in prices. I needed just the cowl painted on my toyota fj. 2000.00 and that.was.cash. I said no also. Did it myself. Oreillys has a paint department down south. I gave them paint code they put it in a spray can. Looked.like new
