I read somewhere Ford is rethinking the whole "just in time inventory" model to avoid these parts/supplier issues in the future. Won't be fixed any time soon but changes improvements to this parts shortage are in the works.
They will fix it and then a year down the road the bean counters will force the JIT inventory back, because it's cheaper than holding inventory.

Can't see that lasting long. That goes against the big Kaizen Lean models of the auto industry...

it's funny to see these models come and go and come back and go again...The concept of interchangeable parts across many lines makes this even more practical. The problem becomes materials and cutting margins. But the flu pandemic has emphasized supply chain weakness leads to billion-dollar setbacks when you don't have what you need and can't find it any time soon.

Creating localized supply chains will need to include localized manufacturing to be truly effective.
Ford like most companies are just in the discussion stages.
They all need to wait untill we get rid of this oh so deadly to our United States Socialist Liberal hand out free money and bankrupt our nation Soon to be communist government that illegally took the white house from the people.
Only we can prevent this.
As in "We The People"....

The problem is while we are trying to bring business back and build here in the USA, the people in charge now are working to see that they never loose power again.

OK lets not turn this fun forum into a political platform people. Keep it about the Bronco....
point well taken, nothing drives a conversation into a headache faster, but that same division, also part of the conversation with all the crazy going on regardless of politics. It's a factor in all of the slowdown. No need to pick a side, the world is not functional right now, and for the best part of a year we are seeing it come to a head.

The American manufacturers need to form a coalition to manufacture common parts here or in Mexico or Canada. It's been done before. The tranny in the BS is joint development by Ford/GM.
