I just don't follow. That wheel is exactly like my Badlands wheel and it's a lot more textured than the Escape wheel you posted. I don't think the car you test drove had the leather package. I think we all have to take their word for what is leather and what isn't, unless we start getting the wheels DNA tested.
I can stop by there on my way home from work and take a gander. I wish the dealership would’ve taken pictures of it and had it on their website like they do with all their inventory, but they haven’t yet.

It did feel like the smooth leather that’s on the Escape wheel though, but maybe it’s something else, idk, as I said, I’ll make a pit stop there and look real quick.

The wheel in the badlands you drove was urethane wheel, if I remember correctly the leather wheel was optional on the badlands? Please correct me if I'm wrong, the wheel you sent a photo of is the same style as the one in my bb which did not have the leather steering wheel option
What’s urethane? Is that like a fake leather like pleather?

Ok I took a couple of pictures of the BL’s steering wheel. It looks like the same stitched material that’s on the Escape’s steering wheel, if that’s leather or not, it doesn’t look like the leather that’s on my OBX’s steering wheel. I tried to brighten up the images so you can see, it’s stitched like leather.

Here. The only thing different between the BL and my dad’s Escape is the red stitching, but it’s the same style leather.

My 21 Badlands with heated steering wheel has the same steering wheel as the Outer Banks model in your pic.

I have the premium pkg on my BL, and the ā€œleather-wrappedā€ steering wheel seems to be a heavily urethane-coated leather, which is a more durable, but less premium feeling material than full-grain leather. I don’t love it.

I just slapped a padded steering wheel cover on mine. I’ve always used them because I find the factory wheels are too skinny and slippy.

Yeah, that's a tough call. Easier to take a pic of the window sticker. It should mention if the car has it. Does it have the upgrade package? Looks like it does because I see the lane-keeping button. Can't see the climate controls to look for the heated wheel button. I think the Badlands needs the package to get the wheel upgraded but honestly, Ford keeps changing the build around so IDK anymore. (Like, I just found out black roofs are back on the menu after they just made it a $500 option. Maybe they just upped the price, wouldn't put it past them.) Like I said, I have the leather wheel, and I don't think much of it. You could improve either wheel with a $12 aftermarket wrap (not cover) for it.

I can get the window sticker, but I didn’t see anything about the steering wheel being wrapped or not. It looks wrapped to me and it felt like the smooth, tighter leather used in other cars like the Escape and the Maverick.

As a former Escape (ā€˜06 and ā€˜13), and current BSBL owner, I know they are very different driving vehicles, but these pictures do nothing to dispel the myth of Bronco Sport being a cosmetic redesign of an Escape, lol!!

I tried to find a thread covering this, but I couldn’t so I’m making a thread asking these questions.

I have an OBX and I test drove a BL yesterday and the leather they use to wrap their steering wheels are different. Like the OBX uses a thicker, tougher, textured leather while the BL uses a smoother, thinner leather that every other car manufacturer uses to wrap their steering wheels.

Why is that? Why do they use different leather on different trims? Wouldn’t it make sense to have them wrapped in the same leather? I’m just really curious.

When I drove the BL yesterday, that was one of the things I didn’t like on it because that kind of leather is slippery compared to the leather in the OBX that’s grippier. One would think that with the BL being the tougher, off road oriented trim, it would have the same tough leather that’s used on the OBX. Idk, just puzzled me when I drove it.
I think the difference is that the BL that you test drove does not have the Premium package, which includes the leather seats and moonroof, while the OBX does have the Premium package.

It's an Escape in an Otterbox.

Badlands without the package. You see it has a "unique cloth interior" and the package is what give the leather upgrades. So, no I would say it is the un-leather wheel in that Badlands and also on the Escape with the red stitching. Has the 360+ so as I said, it has the lane keeping button. I think that is a nice interior really. Think about a wheel wrapper if you're considering it. That is a nicely appointed car and probably the most affordable Badlands at "only" 41k. You can add a dimming mirror and a tow package. No one likes the charging pad.
