Sounds good! After my test drive there were 54 miles on it. The listing said 5 miles.
Their mark up was $7k...I said no way, they brought it down to $5k, I still said no way. Max I was willing to pay is $3k over (and that made me cringe) and they just gave me an extra $2k for my trade in to make up for it. I told them that I completely understood why they are doing it but I have one on order that is not marked up. Not sure why they tried so hard with me...the next person probably would have paid more. I read an article that Ford is not happy with all the markups and they're keeping track of who's doing it and their allocation will be affected downstream.
Hard to say why they sold to you when they could have gotten more. Maybe 'a bird in the hand'?
Also, $3,000 over MSRP isn't bad (from their POV of course). All I know is what I've read, and what I was told before I placed the order. Most dealers were getting about $4,000 over for any BS on their lot -- the BL may have been more, IDK.
Another factor is your trade. Used car prices are crazy high, so they may have done pretty well on that.
I wouldn't worry too much about the $3,000 extra. Yes, it is a lot of money, but you got what you wanted, when you wanted it. You'll be enjoying your BL for months before the one you ordered gets to the dealer.
Everyone's situation is different. Like most people, it kills me to pay MSRP, let alone over. Still, if our situation was different, I might have paid the ADM, but our '97 RAV4 is still running well, and I have a 2002 WRX (bought from the same Ford/Subaru dealer) in the garage that just needs a power steering pump. So it's not as if we don't have wheels and we're renting a car. I can wait if it means saving $4,000+. But that's just me, I totally understand paying the ADM to get the BL now.
Ford keeps bumping our production week back (it's currently Feb 28) -- who knows what might happen? BS production could shut down completely. Then you'll have a VERY valuable Badlands!
I heard the same thing about Ford threatening to 'punish' dealers that are charging ADM. Part of me thinks, 'Yeah, git 'em!' but OTOH, unless their contract with Ford precludes selling for over MSRP, I don't see why Ford would be upset -- unless they're kicking themselves for not setting the MSRP and invoice higher and pocketing some of the extra money.
The other thing that occurred to me is that if Ford (or any other mfr) does not want their vehicles sold for more than MSRP, they could have it spelled out in the contract/franchise agreement. Since that's not the case, I have to wonder how much of Ford's threat to withhold vehicles from dealers is just for 'appearances'. They could be serious, but it makes me wonder.
