How many miles are you getting per fill up?

When I picked up my new Big Bend on Thursday it had a full tank and the panel told me that I had 400+ miles left until empty. This seems to be around what is advertised for the vehicle. Today I filled up and the panel said that i had around 360 miles until empty and that my fuel economy was hanging out around 20 mpg. I've restarted the engine over several trips and this hasn't changed. I've never had tools like these in my previous vehicles, so should this be a cause for concern or should I not worry about it?

A LOT depends on your driving style and many circumstances. I drive two miles to work and two miles home with a mile between stoplights. I'm. Easier on my gas, trying to keep RPM below 2K. With the 2.0 badlands I'm pulling 24.5 mpg on average. When I hit the expressway it's typically 170 miles round trip 78+ mph in eco and pulling 27.5-31mpg riding cruise control 80% of the way
Variables
How many occupants? Wind and direction? Traffic and drag vs drafted.
Our area, highways are primarily flat. Off ramps are significant compared to the roadway. All of it matters.

In essence, don’t worry about what the computer is telling you about your range, unless you are getting close to empty. Even then, all of my cars/motorcycles in the last 20 years have been conservative at the bottom of the tank. In general about 1 gallon left when it says 0 range. Also the computer will adjust constantly. If you are climbing up a mountain the range will fall and when you roll back down the range will go up.

Other factors can also include when you fill up. Heat of the day vs cool of the evening can change just how much we are able to fill up. As vapors expand and contract causing tank to auto stop at different points.
I’ve seen mine say 360-415. But usually it says 385 and I tend to get about 350 when rolling in for a fill up and not completely on E

We drove our new 2022 Outer Banks ( 770 odometer reading at start) from Brighton MI to Syracuse NY 500 miles last Thursday and averaged 32 MPG frequently using Econo mode. On the return trip, into a stiff wind, it dropped to 28 mpg. The Baby Bronco is equipped with cross bars, which I understand create some drag. The range seems to be north of 425 miles. I am impressed with the fuel economy and range.

I don't pay attention to the computer. I like to do the math myself, so around town I get 24-26 mpg and back and forth to work(around 75-80 miles) between 32and 34 mpg. I do use premium gas and full synthetic motor oil....because it's what I like. Hope this helps.

Your fine. My Badlands says between 360 and 400 at fill up. I’m averaging around 24mpg.

The computer-indicated fuel mileage is the result of a, uh, computation, not an actual measurement. As mentioned, the algorithm takes into account many different factors. The only way to get a truly accurate measurement of fuel mileage is to manually track fuel used vs miles driven...by hand. As Tropher mentioned, fill-ups almost never result in the same total amount of fuel in the tank, so you must measure over at least three tanks--as recommended by your Owner's Manual.

Once you measure by hand you can compare the result to the computer indication and get a sense of what the numbers mean. You'll notice fuel economy trending down when you do a lot of short trips, especially when the weather is colder, and trending up for long highway trips. I use the computer-generated fuel mileage number as a trend monitor. A significant, unexplained change is grounds for further investigation. But you have to have a baseline first, so get to hand measuring!

As some have said it's a guide and can indicate an issue but I would do hand calculations before being concerned. Short trip to Ann Arbor after a few weeks of town driving, I left home with 300 miles until empty and arrived with 306 miles until empty...I didn't gain fuel but eco mode, no traffic, wind behind me, driving alone...the efficiency was that much better.
