Ok… so I just want to get a General Feeling for everyone’s opinion…

How long do you think it will be until Ford rebrands the Bronco Sport and starts calling it the Scout?

Thanks for not making fun of an honest question!
When I read your discussion point to start the thread, I thought I’d recalled at one point that Ford considered Scout as one of the possible names. It actually wouldn’t have been a bad choice. My wording was probably even a bit harsh or dismissive in answering the question.

This now outdated future speculation article most definitely refers to it as the Scout. Yes IH I’m sure would’ve had a problem with it, but they’re not about to start making another one (the right time to announce that would’ve been yesterday) so I can only assume some discussion behind the scenes was had to try to work out a deal. If Ford could’ve gotten ‘Scout’ cheaply enough, and I’m again assuming that’s the reason they abandoned it, perhaps we would all be into Bronco Scouts now.

I was unaware of the legalities of it all when I posted the question yesterday. I’m a former CJ guy, so I’m new the the whole Bronco world. Liking it so far though!

I was going to assume that in 5 years or so, for would come out with a soft top version of the BS and possibly rebrand that edition the “Scout”. But… after reading the other articles referenced in this post, I’ll remain content with “Sport”.

It wouldn’t surprise me given the success of the Sport (heck it sells as well as the escape if numbers are to be believed, even if it seems less common yet) that they look at other ways to expand the brand. After all, based on that CJ & its ancestors, Jeep has created a whole lineup of vehicles. Some just as crossovery as the Sport, but nobody is expecting them to be something more than they are. It’ll take Ford a bit to get there with their brand though.

I don’t think this was the in depth article I’d read, but it serves the purpose as a quick google. At one point, the BS, like the Mach E, were designed just as more showroom filler. It makes me wonder what would’ve happened had the Sport not been thrown over to part of the Bronco program at all. Just another little crossover more boxy than the hatchback escape, to get lost beside the eco sport in the showroom. I’m assuming the actual Development of the Sports off-road capabilities came along with the marketing as a Bronco. And until that point, I’m not sure they would’ve considered even calling it a Scout. Dunno what they would’ve called it.

But I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if somewhere along the line somebody isn’t looking at the C2 platform & seeing if a soft top version or other variations couldn’t be done. I think, and could be wrong, that they probably expected the Sport to be a much more niche product than it is. Though it seems every manufacturer now is scrambling to add black plastic fender flares to their crossovers to try for some outdoorsy marketing.
