Guessing the trans ?

I remember a few weeks ago reading a similar thread but cant remember who posted it and mine didnt seem to be quite as severe. So here is what has happened to me a handful of times... usually it occurs when I am parked on a slight incline facing down and also facing up. Recently it happened when trying to back out of parking space, I press the gas and its like the tranny is locked or E brake is on ( dont even know if I have an E brake ) So you guys can beat me up over that .
So this last time I went right to drive on the dial and it wanted to move easily. Back to park and then again to reverse. same thing. With a little more gas pedal this time It kinda popped like a rusty brake does when it lets loose and I was off without hitting the car behind me. I can't make it happen and if I take it to the dealer they are gonna say that they can't see anything wrong. Only 1200 miles on the odometer so do I just drive it till it becomes more consistant ? Also did not try to coast backwards in neutral so much for hindsight. the way it popped out, I dont think it wound have rolled on its own.

You probably have the brake hold activated. On the center console, just behind the electric parking brake, see if the brake hold light is on. Press it to turn off.

Perfect description of the "brake hold" feature as mentioned above. Same thing happened to me. Forced me to read the manual........

Next time look for the red Brake icon on the instrument cluster

I use brake hold all the time. I can't say I remember having any issues with it while trying to reverse, but in drive, AS SOON AS you press the accelerator, it releases the brake for you. I assume(?) it does the same thing in reverse. If that's true, I don't think that would explain the OP's problem, unless being on a grade has something to do with it. Maybe it requires more pedal input to get it to release on a grade? I'll have to try that.

I'm with Dude. I think it's more likely the parking brake. My non-Ford vehicles have an auto-parking brake feature that sets the parking brake when you put it in park. If you don't release the parking brake when starting and shifting to drive, those vehicles do exactly what the OP describes. I turned it on because I thought it would be a poor man's anti-theft feature. I'm not sure if that feature is available on the Bronco Sport or not.

I usually go through every page in every menu when I first get a vehicle and select my options. If the BS has it, mine is not on and I don't remember what I ate for dinner yesterday, not to mention which options I selected a year ago.

I suggest finding the parking brake lever and trying to turn it off the next time this happens. See if the problem goes away. If so, try to determine if you are accidentally turning on the parking brake, OR if there is an auto parking brake feature that is turned on.

Funny cause I thought you were messin with me when you said about the lift handle. I was picturing the "stick" you pull up to apply e brake in earlier cars. so headed to the barn to check things out. Took me a minute but after pressing down on the P button in different scenarios and nothing happened , your words dawned on me, "pull up". Not sure where I got it in my head that button you use along with the turn signal to automatically park itself. Makes sense tho cause I dont have the 360 camera ... I dont think anyway.
Guess those kinds of switches come with the territory like the manual lockout button by door handle.
My wifes nissan has the same goofy things like press a button to put it in park.
