BS makes awful grinding noises when i turn into parking spaces (left or right). Ford dealership has said (twice now) that Ford is aware of problem but no fix yet. There is obviously a defect in the production of this vehicle and Ford seems to not address it. The recent service bulletin was performed on my BS but also did not fix this problem. Any advice on how to get this fixed properly?

Hi there! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your concerns on my end.

My OB has been grinding hard in and out of parking spaces and on tight turns (lock-lock). The noise seems to be upfront. When I come to a slow stop in a turn, it feels like something slipping & grinding. CV joints? CV joints and bearings?

CV joints would be a good possibility. Are you able to inspect the CV boots for any rips/tears/grease leakage? Cheers!

We are experiencing the same Rear End grinding noise with our 2021 BS Outer Banks. The grinding noise occurs whenever we turning into or are pulling out of a parking space with wheels turned sharply either right or left. There is no noise when our wheels are not turned - either right or left. Our OBX has under 16k miles and has never been off pavement and it is bone stock. I have an appointment with the selling dealer Oct 7 to have the vehicle checked.

I hate to say it but that sounds exactly like what happened and it was my rear diff if you turn on the intelligent four-wheel drive screen on your dash for your gauges. You'll probably notice it only happens when it engages your rear tires. If you can get someone to get out and follow you as you take a turn, verify it's coming from the rear. It's probably your diff CV axles could be a possibility, but then if it was those they would be doing it all the time if it's fine going in a straight line whether it engages the rear or not, but it does it when you're turning when it's engaging the rear. It's definitely the rear diff I would say. Hopefully it's still under warranty.

Update - Dealer changed fluid and vent tube. They test drove afterward and RDU still made grinding noise. They then replaced RDU. No noise or grinding on way home. Hope this one holds up.

This forum and other forums have dozens, maybe hundreds of posts of the same issue related to the RDU. Many of those posts are mine. My advise is don't waste a minute, take it in and get it replaced. It's a big pain in the ass as it might take up to two weeks to get replaced. The good news is the warranty will cover 100%. Make sure you get the rental covered also. Dealers rarely have enough loaners as the shop is full of "Fords" getting fixed. The longer you wait the chance of getting stranded somewhere increases plus you are running your mileage and "warranty" up.
Be sure and duplicate the exact situation (grinding) with the mechanic in the passenger seat.

I really like my BS, being a lifelong Ford guy my very last car will probably be a Ford. Even though I have to admit I am always wondering what's next. Between recalls, software updates, TSB's and the concert of different engine, transmission and phantom noises I know something else will pop-up, just a matter of time.
